Everton are the Norma Desmond of English football.
Out of boredom with the English top division and thorough disillusionment of what has become a procession of league positions being based on available cash, I've started flirting with teams in foreign unfashionable leagues - based purely on their names. Not trying to have a go here, but I just don't get the 'I've decided to support Everton' claims by (mostly) Americans. Surely it isn't as simple as that?
Always sounds very strange to me, if new Evertonians come on here and claim they just decided from one day to another that they'll support Everton. Surely, it isn't as simpe as just going through a list of PL clubs and take your pick out of them?
There has to be a reason you are attracted to them imo. There has to be some kind of emotion towards that club you start supporting, or am I missing something ? That attraction can come from a variety of reasons, but just picking a random club to support sounds very strange to me.
Again, not trying to have a go, as I welcome all new Evertonians, just sincerely interested how 'picking a club to support' actually works
So are you some kind of jinx?Out of boredom with the English top division and thorough disillusionment of what has become a procession of league positions being based on available cash, I've started flirting with teams in foreign unfashionable leagues - based purely on their names.
Currently Odds Ballcub (Sweden) and O'Higgins (Chile) are favourites ... Which lead me into following Everton CD in Chile too, once they got promoted into O'Higgins' league.
Needless to say all of these teams start doing badly once I show an interest.

But there was a reason, wasn't there? Even if it was computer game that drawn you towards the Toffees
Had to google that one. I prefer to think you meant a "mimosa double".Hello is that Bucks fizz?
Whatever your safe word is...it won't work on hereI'm a newly-minted PL fan and have chosen Everton as my club. What should I know about...
- The current team?
- Everton history?
- Club traditions (e.g. supporters' songs, chants, etc.)
- Anything else?
Kind of looks that way.So are you some kind of jinx?![]()

Me tooI blame Howard
Kind of looks that way.
Worse, I remember the exact moment I stopped supporting English teams (well, northern teams) in Europe. It was half time when the rs were heavily behind in that final v AC Milan. I realised that they weren't an English team at all, but a team of mercenaries, and they were effectively playing against an Italian team that comprised largely Italians.
2nd half I started cheering on AC Milan (not trying to seek glory, bug because my hatred of the rs had finally crystallised). We all know how that ended.
