It's not just about the footy though is it?

It's just refreshing to have someone with a bit of desire for the job again, having another year of that sour faced bellend slump through his weekly press conferences wouldn't have been any fun at all.

Some of the ****e he came out with was cringworthy

His comments were calculated and well thought out. he would make everybody think he was working miracles with very average players. in reality the players we had were to good for his dogsh1t tactics. the great english premier league con and many fell for it. he will be found out at united very soon.

You no what that is exactly how it was, spot on Harry!

Had lot of laughs reading this thread.

he will be found out at united very soon.

"I" and "me". Personal achievement put above the club/team/individual players? Wondering if the United supporters will clock it early on, or whether they'll be forgiving and get worn down by attrition. The test being when Moyes has to make real adjustments to the side, or brings in new players.

MoTD. Post match interview (iPlayer Timeline 11:30)

David Moyes
Manager, Manchester United.

If I had lost today it wouldn't have made me any different, it wouldn't have made me change. Erm I'm just going to try and do what I've done over the last 10 or 12 years at Everton. And today was my first game at Manchester United; I was excited about it, but it was just work for me again. You know it was back into the mold, it was just different players I've got, and obviously I'm going to have to try and win.. win more games than I've won maybe at Everton in the past at Manchester United but err, the players started off very well today.

In contrast I've always enjoyed Martinez's post-match interviews. They always gave him loads of time on BBC for his interviews, as if captivated by his intelligent club/team-based responses and answers. Amazed by his steely calmness even under serious pressure (including into and during Wigan's escape from almost certain relegation on a brilliant run, turning over United and others season before last). Martinez was also full of good positive club based answers on that strange setup interview, holding his own microphone, answering Lineker questions to the MoTD studio after the Norwich match.

I am made up about the way Martinez has conducted himself and what he has said so far. He is clearly an intelligent guy. I don't want a braggart as a anger but someone who appears to appreciate the club he manages is vital, especially when our media persona is impoverished poor little Everton so much of the time. I remember HK 3 being asked about how hard it was to be our manager on Football Focus. He paused with a sort of "what a divvy question" look and said, "it is always a privilege to be manager of this great club" or words to that effect. I think DM also thought that at first but did not towards the end.

Bit harsh on Joe's team who could play a bit too (and Moyes' team on occasions, tbf).

This stood out: 'Perhaps the most telling statistic from Saturday was the number of passes Everton played in their own half, 221 against a season average last term of 142. Persistently they avoided the temptation to go long, with their usual target Fellaini no longer the easy get-out ball. Greater patience in their build-up play is likely to be a trope to watch out for in a side that already is starting to mirror its manager.'

There's a good Executioners Bong analysis of Barkley knocking about too.
