A safe choice ffs. Our mentality is hideous

I think you are reading too much into my posts as it was a little vague. When I say safe, I meant would get us back up the table with a more long term vision for success. Someone that could possible mirror Poch. I think Pellegrini would not work at all. Mourhino is my first choice but history states would only be here 3 years. Would he be able to win in three? hopefully, but I think we overvalue our players - all depends on investment.

Has Mourinho ever developed a team? He seems to be the type that walks into a solid side, and makes them put out that extra 20% which wins titles.
Koeman seems just a bit unambitious compared to the rest.

De Boer for me.

or Garcia.
Porto

He's the manager of the most successful and richest club in the Eredivisie but hasn't won it in the last couple of seasons. Imagine Ronny Deila doing the same at Celtic.

This is not a fair comparison really mate. Celtic probably operate on budgets of 2-3 times of their nearest competitors. In Holland the budgets are far similar. PSV are also better than any competition Celtic face.

I have and always had a soft spot for Ajax. It's not a strong league and I am not trying to make it out it's as good as the top 4/5 leagues. However a manager who'd always finished in the top 2 for 6 years in such a league would be out of our reach.

I'm not sure what point people are trying to make denigrating the league. The league standard might be poor, but his Ajax sides are relative to that, he hasn't got a Real Madrid budget playing in the championship. Football is a simple game, take 11 players, organise them properly, improve them on the training pitch and get them to win. Whatever standard the league is that doesn't change.

You could try to say he's not used to doing it in a big league under the pressure and scrutiny of the premiership and that's fair. But managing Ajax is not managing Rotherham, they are a big club and he has coped with their expectation and built a successful team.

That soft spot, catcher.

Would it have owt to do with the memorable occasion when the RS went to Amsterdam in the European Cup and Rinus Michel's nascent European champions, boasting a then unknown Johann Cruyff, smashed the buggers 5-1 :)

I have always loved Ajax ever since.

For weeks we went around school singing:

"When it's spring again,
we'll bring again

Ajax from Amsterdam".

lol

Mourinho is a delusional choice. Not a chance in hell he will come here. Pellegrini will be at Valencia next season. Koeman will not leave Southampton for us. De Boer is the only realistic target from the list and I wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole, I really wouldn't.

that's the spirit ;)

Lets wait and see. His European record is ok, I think he qualified out of his Europa League group this season and has had some impressive results in the champions league like beating City & Dortmund. His European record is not great, certainly not a patch on what Cocu has done this season but probably not as disastrous as people make out.

They didn't qualify from their Europa group this season - only managed one win in six. I suppose he can be given a pass if he chose to concentrate on the league rather than Europe (although in that case he probably should've won the league). His results in the CL have been fairly poor - one or two wins but ultimately failed to qualify from the group every year.

Not necessarily damning, but not particularly encouraging either.

Mate I'd take 3 years of Jose all day long

I bow (ruff ruff) to your superior knowledge mate, but still I'm unimpressed with De Boers' record at Ajax.

Shoot me down, but if LVG is looking for work at the end of the season, I'd bite his hand off, I really would.

Aye not exactly mate though that was good. I've always felt they had a clear identity in a big City who were intertwined in the community. They remind me of Everton in the Moores days and always stick to Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.

Haha no need to bow down mate, and I can assure you it's not much superior! Celtic are miles ahead in Scotland, and while Ajax do have bigger budgets they are not that much bigger than Feyenoord or PSV.

kenwright said he's generally on the same page as evertonians last time we needed a manager.

http://www.skysports.com/football/n...rtinez-not-the-only-candidate-for-everton-job

He said: "I will meet Roberto in the next 48 hours and he's on the list, as I've always said. No more than on the list.

"I said we'd be making a list, and Evertonians have been great as I indicated I thought they would be.

"They've certainly bombarded me with their thoughts and they're not a million miles away from mine.

"You always get the odd one that thinks he's got the only idea, and there are a few plumbers and electricians who think they can manage Everton, but in the main Evertonians and myself are sort of on the same page.

"The most gratifying thing is 90% of them said 'you didn't let us down last time, go with your gut instinct and hopefully you'll get it right again'.

"There's no way I or anyone can say 'we'll get the right man' but I certainly will put everything into getting it right and getting the right DNA for Everton Football Club. That's very important."

Pressed on whether Neil Lennon, Malky Mackay or Michael Laudrup were potential targets, Kenwright said: "There is a list. No favourite - not at this moment."

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan confirmed Martinez had decided to leave the DW Stadium after a meeting with the Spaniard on Tuesday, but insisted there would be a price to pay.

Whelan said: "He's still on a contract with us and there's 12 months left on that contract. He can be released from that contract but there'll be a little bit of compensation to pay for whichever club wants him.

"The amount is somewhere around £2m. To get a manager like Roberto, I think it's very cheap."
