Everton have confirmed the four appointments to their new Football Leadership Team.

Following the exit of Kevin Thelwell at the end of last season, the Toffees have moved away from the Director of Football model in favour of a Football Leadership Team made up of specialists in technical development, football operations, talent ID, data analytics and player trading.

As reported by TGG earlier this week, the four members of the team are:

Club Info
  • Nick Cox (Technical Director): Will “ensure all aspects of Finch Farm are at elite level” and oversee Medical, Operations, Facilities, Player Care and Academy functions. Cox is currently the Academy Director at Manchester United, a role he was appointed to in 2019, three years after joining United as Head of Academy Operations.
  • James Smith (Director of Scouting and Recruitment, pictured): Will join Everton in September, moving from his position as Director of Scouting and Recruitment at the City Football Group. Joined Manchester City from Manchester United in 2014, before being appointed as the recruitment lead for the City Group’s stable of clubs across the world in 2023. Prior to United, Smith was part of Everton’s recruitment and insights team for 10 years.
  • Chris Howarth (Head of Football Strategy & Analytics): “Will ensure the club is at the vanguard of data optimisation in the development of all aspects of football operations.” Has worked with 14 clubs across Europe through his Insight Sport data consultancy. As part of his arrival, Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group, have acquired Insight Sport.
  • Nick Hammond (Head of Player Trading):Retired as a player in 2000 and went on to become Director of Football at Reading for 13 years, Technical Director at West Brom for three years and as Head of Football Operations at Celtic. Most recently worked as a transfer consultant at both Leeds United and Newcastle United.
Chief Executive Angus Kinnear, who arrived at the club from Leeds United this summer, said: “I’m delighted with the appointments of Nick, James and Nick. Their CVs speak for themselves – they are exceptional operators, hugely respected in the game and an example of the ambition we hold as a Club in ensuring the pathways and structures in place across our football operations are of the very highest standard.

“The fact we had such exceptional candidates for these positions is also a reflection of the direction of the Club. I’m equally delighted by our appointment of Chris and ownership’s strategic acquisition of Insight Sport, which is a further sign of our ownership’s ambition for Everton and I believe step-changes our analytics capability and will deliver us a long-term competitive advantage.

“The new football leadership structure will ensure our two managers have the very best support, and the very best operators driving the key football operations, to ensure our collective ambitions are realised.”

That doesn't tell you anything you can't work out for yourself though. That's not AI giving a nuanced opinion based on serious research, it's literally just saying he's never been the CEO of a club which has won trophies.
We could be saving a lot of electricity and water if we just use wikipedia and string two thoughts together.

An end of season statement and plan for next season would be the least we should expect.
Angus will announce an "end of season review" - which will be designed merely to placate people who think this equates to accountability. Nothing will change as it will take two months, whereupon it will be agreed that enough progress has been made to remain happily dissatisfied. Moyes will dictate the summer. A "compelling" new season awaits in more expensive seats. Console yourself with the new, enhanced Hill Dickinson Stadium menu.

He had a sporting director at Leeds that Victor Ortiz therefore I assume he had less of an impact on the sporting side of things than he has here which is very very worrying

I know it’s The Echo but the more I read about these the more I’m getting wound up, genuinely starting to feel like we’re just in their portfolio so they can make a quick buck in a couple of years.

Someone hold @davek

They've been at Roma like 6 years now, I think, and us like 1.5 years, I'm thinking it's maybe quite normal for them to seem more integrated in Roma than us right now.

Be nice of them to turn up once though.

I actually see huge red flags with TFG and think it’s shocking they haven’t been to a proper game.

However, this is another article by Chris Beesley, who is on a one man mission to absolve Moyes of any criticism whatsoever for the failings this season. Bizarrely hung Ancelotti out to dry the other day.

Looking forward to see who he is blaming in next weeks column - Che Guevara? Ainsley Harriot? The planet Venus?
