The same reason Chelsea went from Ranieri to Mourinho

The same reason City went from Hughes to Mancini, or Pellegrini to Guardiola

Same reason Liverpool fired Rodgers and got Klopp in

We should aim to have the best manager possible at any given point. If Moyes thinks he can move us in next season and get us into the top 5 and challenging for trophies (which would be progression on where we are now) then let him have his final year. But if he’s going on about how difficult it will be, some great teams ahead of us, we need to remember where we were a few seasons ago etc. then I’d rather just get in someone who does believe they can do it.

Moyes was the perfect Everton manager for his first spell under Kenwright, I’ll never have a bad word about that first spell because we were having European football on a relegation budget and he was probably keeping the club afloat by financially by himself.

The Friedkin takeover changed everything though. We have the landscape now to be a competitive football team. Literally the only thing that could stop us is the SCR regs which were still in a good position on and with clever recruitment could work within.

We should see ourselves at least the level of Villa and Newcastle and neither of them will be hoping for 8th or 9th next season.

I really don’t think these owners are who you think they are. What has given you the impression that they are anything like Abramovich or the City group, or even Newcastle’s owners? What makes you think they are in the slightest bit ambitious about winning trophies?

It's not about Moyes, said it for years - we shouldn't only change managers when we're absolutely on our arse and worried about relegation.

Always been uncomfortable with "he deserves...". People said it a lot with Dyche after he kept us up - I'm a big advocate of what he did here but if we had new owners come in after Doucoure/Bournemouth with money to spend to rebuild - I'd have been saying leg him. As I was Allardyce after we finished 8th.

You pick the best man for the job - if you have Lampard in place and Emery is available, you get him.

If you're sacking managers when in the bottom 3 mid season constantly, Koeman, Silva, Lampard, or close to it, Benitez, Dyche, you have a limited shortlist no matter how "deserving" they might be to carry on.

I think Moyes just goes next Summer when his contract ends.

This x1000. You don't pay for past results, you pay for future results.

Then the question becomes who is better for the club than Moyes, at this point? The list isn't small, but probably doesn't have the names everyone thinks of.

Take Iraola for example. He could be better, but frankly there is nothing in his history to suggest that he will get better results than Moyes. There is now a very long list of managers who have gotten small clubs to mid table, only to move on to bigger clubs and fail miserably. The task is different.

As you suggest, someone like Emery who does have the big club experience. Or Pochettino. Or someone who is an assistant at a big club like Arteta. Those are the types, imo, we should be targeting.

Too many in the fanbase are as ruthless when the chance comes to drive on as Thierno Barry is in front of goal. There's always a sentimental or risk-averse reason to fall over our shoelaces. Moyes was brought in at a time of chaos for two reasons: one - secure safety; two - establish stability. To the credit of the man, mission accomplished on both counts.

What are we waiting for? Time to see the real Friedkin plan.

Sadly, it appears that "plan" is merely to nurture their investment in the confines of mediocre mid-table obscurity.

so why change now?

I'd personally like to see them restructure the whole club, from academy upwards, set a clear pathway for 1st team football, employ the best scouts, analysts, coaches, defensive, goalkeeping, attacking, and set in place a way of looking for managers/coaches that fit that set up rather than hiring different managers with different styles of play, that way there won't be a merry go round of players that different managers want/need
