And manager.

Anything else is "This'll do."

There were loads of mitigating reasons under Kenwright, and the latter days of Moshiri as to why we had to be rubbish at times.

I’m fed up of the excuses now though. We’ve built the stadium, we have wealthy owners, we’re pretty much clear of financial regs now, there’s no massive squad turnaround needed or relegation spectre hanging over the club.

If we simply go into next season with ‘maybe we make a lesser European comp’ mindset it’s just going to be so dispiriting. Newcastle and Villa pushed straight for the CL, City and Chelsea didn’t hesitate back when they were moving up.

Everything at Everton is just talking down of expectations, safety first, careful what you wish for, ‘stability’. Some of the larger teams in the league are in a mess but I guarantee you that if/when Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs, United change manager the talk won’t be about ‘stability’ it will be about how quickly they can return to winning trophies and being in europe’s top competition.

We should be striking whilst there’s an opportunity of Spurs potentially being down, Chelsea in turmoil, Liverpool will be going through a big transition int heir squad, Forest are rubbish, and Newcastle will be out of Europe. We set our stall out at ‘stability’ though.

Cant be charging Champions League prices for the football we watch.

They’re not Champions League prices, they’re Premier League prices. The wages in this league blow every other league in Europe out of the water and the match tickets will reflect that. The price of a Premier League match ticket isn’t determined by how many pretty triangles you play in midfield unfortunately.

I want the owners to hire the best manager available at any given point and back them with a competitive transfer budget. If that’s still Moyes then fine but if better managers are available then I want the best managing Everton at any given point.

What do you want?

The same reason Chelsea went from Ranieri to Mourinho

The same reason City went from Hughes to Mancini, or Pellegrini to Guardiola

Same reason Liverpool fired Rodgers and got Klopp in

We should aim to have the best manager possible at any given point. If Moyes thinks he can move us in next season and get us into the top 5 and challenging for trophies (which would be progression on where we are now) then let him have his final year. But if he’s going on about how difficult it will be, some great teams ahead of us, we need to remember where we were a few seasons ago etc. then I’d rather just get in someone who does believe they can do it.

Moyes was the perfect Everton manager for his first spell under Kenwright, I’ll never have a bad word about that first spell because we were having European football on a relegation budget and he was probably keeping the club afloat by financially by himself.

The Friedkin takeover changed everything though. We have the landscape now to be a competitive football team. Literally the only thing that could stop us is the SCR regs which were still in a good position on and with clever recruitment could work within.

We should see ourselves at least the level of Villa and Newcastle and neither of them will be hoping for 8th or 9th next season.
