actually id go a step further ..... that everton badge is weird wonderful and so unique and different that as a crest it stands out in the whole of world football. i always thought as a kid its was strange and if you squint it looks like an angry bear :)
to change it for a boring run of the mill circle or shield , or to drop the motto , or change the odd images in the middle that lead to curiosity and the need for search for knowledge about it - that leads onto learning about the clubs heritage and history , or (to use a birding term ) the overall jizz , would lesson the appeal and the uniqueness of the club that could actual get the fans of the future interested. it will just be a badge with no heart or soul.

this is our badge , was always our badge and always will be our badge.
instantly recognizable , and even in a black silhouette every football fan would know its everton.
the dates and name added a few years back were not needed and the cause of all this 'it must be changed becouse elements are missed out' argument. having the need to have 'everton on it somewhere is like an adult man stitching his name into his pants imo.
if you dont know what club this badge belongs too without the need for the name being on it in big letters , imo you dont need to know , as its clearly not a club for the likes of you.
we dont need a consultation or to spend money on some no mark kopite graphic designer to come up with yet another badge that we still wont like.
and we wont like it becouse it still wont be our badge - this above is our badge.

Clearly suggests that whatever follows will be wildly inaccurate and ill-informed.

You're comparing Nike, McDonalds, Adidas, and Ferrari to Everton. It's a stupid comparison.

On the other hand, a brand who are less well known internationally:

i dont think its stupid at all to show that some companies are recognisable by an icon .
show a football fan a silhouette of the everton crest i posted and see how many instantly know it.
thats my point.
as for warrior , it first hasnt got the backing of a 125 year old fan base and history. if id never heard of warrior but they made something that became successful ,in time id know them from familiarity of there icon too .

Nike used to have 'NIKE' written under the swoosh. They don't need it now.

agreed.
im just saying after 125 years and and an ever present in the prem neither should we .
and doing so would make no difference without success, and changing the essence will lessen the the ground we have made in our time.
id revert to the old badge and concentrate on whats happening on the pitch as that is what is gonna increase our fanbase.

edit - can you imagine nike changing there swoosh to a plus sign + with the words nike under it for eg. it would be a step back.

I highly doubt that, and certainly not the lesser known teams who desperately need more exposure...

There would be no benefit to having the name of your team on the badge which is shown whenever they play on television ? Fair enough, agree to disagree, i imagine marketing people would say it certainly does make a difference though.

The notion of brand identification is a curious one, and a hypothetical situation of someone watching Everton on television and not knowing who they are isn't really a good argument for inserting the club name into the badge design. Brand imaging is successful through simplicity and exposure. An example of successful branding is not one that requires the name to be stated.

Sometimes a company name might offer an association that carries some weight, whether professional or status. But in the specialised world of professional football the 'brand identity' that 'EVERTON' offers is minimal. If the word complicates the aesthetic of the badge (which it seems to in most mock-ups) then that sacrifice is not outweighed by a casual football fan noticing the name, because, let's be honest, said casual fan is rarely financially relevent to the club. In only 19 of the near-100 years of having a badge has the club name appeared, sporadically over the period. Obviously badge exposure is greater now than ever, but the basic tenets of branding haven't changed all that much and there's zero indication our identity was strengthened over those 19 years.

Brand identity is defined by brand quality. A League One side without their name on a badge might not be identifiable, but adding it won't increase their support. All it will do is make it less likely that their badge will appear in a "whose badge is this?" internet quiz.

The tower and the wreaths are iconic to Evertonians and identifiable to a fair number of non-Evertonian football fans. That's enough. Increased exposure and increased support relies exclusively on the success of the team. If the team enjoys success then we'd want an elegant and iconic image as our badge and brand. If we don't win trophies the word EVERTON isn't going to matter.

I wish people would refer to them as Laurels as opposed to wreaths, I know they are Laurel Wreaths but the words convey Pos & neg imo, they never say that the victors wear wreaths they say Laurels.

See your point, and it's something I've heard before, but with the wreath being the shape and the Laurel being the plant it just seemed to make more sense in the context of design. Still, I see your point.

I really think it should be this or something similar.

I don't care if people think it looks too much like Chelsea and I don't even think it does that much. It's the same shape and has a bit of blue but that's about it. It looks absolutely fantastic.

Can anyone that is good with Photoshop maybe alter the colours so they are more "Everton"? Maybe Royal Blue in the middle with white border circle and Everton and NSNO in Royal Blue too. I would but I am shocking with Photoshop. Just don't want Navy to be the dominant colour on an Everton badge, it looks wrong.
