New Contracts: Barry, Baines and Holgate

I think he gets plenty of opportunities, it's him who doesn't take them. He's still way too inconsistent and that doesn't seem to change for him. Getting frustrated with the lad big time.

Hence the need for faith to build confidence in Ross, and faith from the manager to work with him to ensure he becomes the player we think he can be and and want him to be.

Mason was due a new contract back in August as he'd triggered a clause that entitled him to an automatic pay rise.

However, his family advised against him signing it, as they thought he could get much more out of the club or angle for a move if he didn't get a substantial increase on what was on the table. So good to hear we've tied him down.

I've no issue with Barry getting another year, but I don't understand why Baines has had yet another pay rise.

I don't think Baines will be on more than his existing deal. I would imagine its just an extension on the same wage

Yeah because Gareth Barry is on £50 a week lol Ronald wants a pressing game and may sell McCarthy but keep Barry who often gets caught out for pace by attacking teams. if Barry walks back into the team on Monday then we will get smashed by their pace in the final third.

Not at all keen on Barry being there next season, see little evidence of these leadership skills, on the pitch he's a hindrance

if we qualify for europe and need to be rotating every now and then his experience and nous on the pitch is very handy. We know he wouldn't let us down, especially if we field a flood of youngsters in the league cup, get a long term injury to schneiderlein ;)

Made up Barry is staying another season. Very good footballing brain that we would desperately lack if he went.

Indeed, happy with all three. None of these are a Gibson-esque mystery as to why they are happening.
I agree. Although I do hope Barry said this tongue-in-cheek;

“They say you can’t buy experience and, for me, it feels so much easier going out on the pitch knowing what I know. Obviously there’s different sides of the game that are needed, such as energy, but I feel as comfortable on the pitch as I have ever done and a successful team here is something I want to be part of.”

I cannot believe we have extended Barry's deal? He doesn't have the legs now can you imagine next year?

This to me says everything we need to know that we won't be looking to replace him in the summer. Horrendous decision
