New Contracts: Barry, Baines and Holgate

The day that there's no Gareth Barry training in a pair of Gazelles or Leighton Baines taking his guitar on away trips, Everton will have lost something.

Mason is one of the big talents at the Club. Of course, he started playing this season and did a great job. He can play out of different positions in the team defensively. He was really comfortable when he got his chance in the team. He showed strengths with the football and strengths in defending. He’s the future for the Club and other young players like him.

"For young players it's difficult to come into the first team but we are really happy that at Everton we have a lot of young players who can make that step." - Ronald Koeman

Don't see any downside to this.

Be surprised if Barry and Baines aren't both getting an extra year on slightly reduced terms (particularly Barry, who you'd assume will play a smaller role going forward)... and getting Holgate secured is a no brainer

The 'quiet lad' thing in the dressing rooms sounds about right, another head down merchant

Head down - work hard - not surrounded by controversy and media tripe - eat well - drink responsibly - look after yourself on and off the pitch - turn up for training driving your own fancy motor because you haven't wrapped it around a cyclist whilst bat faced etc etc etc.....

Leadership by example - not by gobbing off or courting the limelight.

A bit of that is no bad thing in that world !

Fine by me. I was thinking maybe Baines was coming to the end of his time, but I am sure if we have a long term replacement lined up he still has plenty to offer as backup for a few seasons yet. Barry, another good squad options. You need players in the squad who due to their age or ability are okay with accepting not being guaranteed starters but can also come in and start and contribute to a high level.

An added bonus is that @Zatara will be annoyed that we have given contracts to two 65yos.

We just need RK to show real faith in Ross and get him nailed down too.

I think he gets plenty of opportunities, it's him who doesn't take them. He's still way too inconsistent and that doesn't seem to change for him. Getting frustrated with the lad big time.
