When ancelotti parked the midfield bus in front of them. Which was the reason the likes of burnley looked world class at Goodison. Because ancelotti had to protect the so called defenders at this club. Giving burnley the rest of the pitch.
Ask them to do the bread and butter basics and you'll find we end up on 32 goals conceded by january.

And still Carlo got better results than what Bennys getting. Id take boring football over 1 win in 12 games anytime.

Not really. For all the talk of innovative high lines at set plays etc, still very much middle of the pack / average.

What I want in a centre back

1) Has a football brain
2) Good positional sense
3) Cool under pressure
4) Can head a ball
5) Has some pace
6) Can make a simple pass (or hit Row Z when needed)

Non of our current lot have these qualities

I’d add bravery to that list.

Branthwaite has done well for us when he's played and hopefully there's a player there

Really not sure about Godfrey as a long term CB

He's fast but his positioning is bad and he's poor at heading so not a reliable centre half yet.

Not sure who to target and it defo depends on our budget but I reckon we need to shift at least one and get 2 new centre backs in

He can turn faster than Keane that's a start....

Below average imho, but to say they were very good last season is an exaggeration.
Left back was problematic last season (injury and reluctance to play NN) right back was problematic last season as SC is unfortunately past it, and the CH specialists are pretty much what we have now, terribly inconsistent or MIA.
My point is the weren’t good enough last season defensively and they still aren’t this season. Arguably performing worse atm but there will be a clearer picture on that at the end of the season unless the two new fullback make an immediate impact ??

Surely a CB is high on Benitez list now. He must be frustrated with the constant individual errors. Shame Mina is always injured.

Missing Yerri as he seems to bring a bit more stability and last year no crowds=less pressure

Current lot don't seem to handle the pressure that well.

Playing a back 5 doesn't help either cos non have much of a football brain and its panic and chaos too quickly and too often

Another thing I've noticed is there is hardly any communication between them all and no leader giving directions or pointing where others should be if they are out of position etc

They do moan at each other when we concede though!

Can't keep clean sheets. Go back to defending deep. A settled back 4 and we'l be fine in the long run. Need yerry to comeback and stay fit
