Jagielka was Moyes' choice as captain, chosen for the next season when Neville announced his retirement. At a time when it's highly likely Moyes knew he wouldn't be here.

However, I'd expect Barry to be Martinez' choice as he seems like his golden boy, and he's no better.

I'd say he's a much better captain. He's just playing terribly this season and it's not clear why.

Very strange post match interview last night.
Maybe he was ashamed?

He had good cause to be. And not just for last night either. He looks like his mind is elsewhere when he's out on the pitch. I'd play literally anyone in the squad at CB before I'd play him there. He's appalling and he looks to me like he's hoping Martinez just pulls him out of the firing line to avoid the ordeal of playing.

Martinez should oblige him straight away.

I actually thought that Jags last night was a bit disgraceful.

I really have tried to not knee jerk, about what was the worst centre half performance I can remember for sometime, to go with his lack of courage, lack of leadership and lack of organisational skills . However, what really upset me about him (not sure if this has been mentioned) was his post match match interview - he looked dejected, deflated and negative. There seemed to be no fight, no desire, no defiance and no determination.

As a club we are in disarray - for reasons that we can all see clearly on the pitch. Yet, for the club captain to behave in that manor in front of the tv cameras was terrible. He doesn't look or behave like he is up for the fight, and certainly doesn't look like he can lead from the front. His body language wouldn't inspire me to fight - and that is what is required.

Maybe Martinez needs to drop the nice guy piece now, and been seen to make some decisions - stripping Jags of the club captaincy would be a statement. It would make his position at Everton almost untenable - however with the way he is playing right now - would that be such a bad thing?

As for replacements - I would go for Jimmy Mac. He is definitely up for the fight.

Jags has always been a mystery to me. Its not as if he hasn't played very well for us as he has of course but, you have to add, in the past. Hes strung together a terrible run of poor games this season which needs to be addressed by RM as a matter of urgency as hes going further down with each awful game he plays. Hes always been a confidence player. I said not long after he arrived that when he makes a mistake or his more usual yet equalling damaging failing of showing hesistancy/poor decision making in dangerous areas, his head goes down immediately. His appearance both on and off the pitch was a clear barometer of his total lack of confidence, head down, no enthusiasm considering we'd just equalised at the last minute. If he doesn't want to play then he should pull himself out of the firing line...though this decision should really be made for him.

Jags hasnt been the same since Lescott left. Moyes werent the same when Irvine left. Both partnerships were solid, once one left the other didnt perform to the consistent levels previously. I always say you can have two average players who compliment each other to another level.

Very strange post match interview last night.

He never looks at the reporters. Anyone else ever notice that? Looks shifty and eyes to the floor but never to the camera or journo. That said, didn't see the interview, just saying that he isn't most comfortable being interviewed !!

Glad I wasn't the only who noticed that - absolutely bizarre and disrespectful to be honest

Yes, mate, completely disrespectful. I'm struggling today with the lack of respect he showed to us and the global footballing community by looking at the ground and not looking completely thrilled.

Maybe he has some sort of nervousness/anxiety issues? That's the only explanation for his behaviour in post match interviews. Defo need a new captain though, somebody who is up for the fight and will lead the team through bad patches in matches.
