Think that's part of the problem with our defence, the mentality is all wrong.

Baines, seems too nice and even modest in his own ability.
Jagielka, again seems a great guy, but never a captain.
Distin, don't think he's bothered by anything.
Coleman, probably the only with the required aggression when he turns it on.

There is no players in the team who have leadership qualities, maybe james Mc for how vocal he is on the pitch when decisions go against us. Jagielka is a phony but stripping him of captaincy atm would probably do more harm than good considering the last 2 months of results

Jags is a great club captain. I imagine the players respect him and he seems like a nice guy. I imagine he is the type to pick up his coaching badges and go into management one day and he will probably be quite a good manager one day.

On the pitch however, we need someone who is loud and in the refs face constantly over every decision. I imagine refs are beginning to see us as soft touches and so are less likely to give us the decisions that matter if they are borderline. Calls for McCarthy are laughable as whilst you would want him in your team he certainly isn't going to be getting in refs faces. The only player we really have that fits the bill is Howard, and his position probably rules him out of it. My vote would go to Barry (if he can recapture his form) for the reason that he is the only one that has the stature to get in the refs face and make him think twice about giving West Ham a load of soft fouls and us nothing....
Also with Barry he will be very familiar to all the Refs, on first name terms, even on their xmas card lists due to the amount of yellow cards he's had

Jagielka is the worst captain since that bloke who got drunk and drove the Titantic into the ice-berg.

Baines should get the armband or if he's too chicken to accept it then give it to Coleman. Seamus is a fiery lad when he's allowed to be and we need some fire at the moment.

You need your captain to be the man who'd put his head in where most players wouldn't put their foot

Jags isn't doing that at the moment
Turning his back on shots
Pulling out of committing on set pieces

None of the back 5 have an ounce of personality or leadership qualities, you can also rule out Barry, McGeady, Mirallas and Gibson.
Personally McCarthy, Barkley, Besic, Eto'o or Lukaku could warrant it and even then I'm not convinced, but would love Mo as long term captain.

am a captain myself .. even tho its amateur standard even i can see watching jags ..its painful compare him to john terry and its totally different gravy

He might do well behind the scenes as a captain (e.g. helping young players /repsenting the club ) but on the pitch where you need someone to be counted he goes missing

Wrong question, wrong time.

Jags has the respect of the players and is the best man for the job. Changing our captain will not make one iota of difference to how we play. And in the real world, we know who Jags's deputies are : Osman and Barry. Anyone desperate to see either of them given the armband ? Thought not.
