Neville signs a year extension deal

I want him phased out of the team but that's just a lie. Defensively he's still fantastic and offers a lot in that capacity.

The problem is he's completely useless at the half way line and beyond. It would be okay if he was a CB or something, but he plays in either CM or at RB.

So he offers half of nothing, which is still nothing RFUS.

Those Mayans were friggin right......

I dont dislike Nev, but after yesterdays captains performance, I think he needs to take a long look in the mirror(and not at his highlights). Plenty of encouragement but lacking quality. 1st game though, so maybe I'm overreacting?

i dont think so, mate............ he`s been rubbish for ages, yesterday was the pinnacle of his awful Everton career. i dont think he cares tho - he`s on good wages isnt he?

But unfortunatly what happens on the pitch is more important than what happens off it.

I don't mind Nev being around the squad, using his experience he is good for the young players and makes good cover. He won't be used like that though, he will more often than not play where his weaknesses are exploited.

He can be Mr nice guy all he wants off the pitch, good on him. But not when he distinctly average player on it. You need a combination of both, and when your negatives are oputweighing your positives soemthing needs to change.

Good points and that's why I'm conflicted.

Hibbert isn't a huge upgrade at the RB position and I don't know if I want Coleman at RB since he's done well at the RM spot.

We certainly need some changes though because I'm afraid the same 'ole same 'ole isn't gonna cut it this year.

No because his main roles are defensive ones. And for this reason alone he can't be construed as a bad player. He just lacks the extra things. The best fullbacks these days, for example, have a bit of attacking guile. Baines being the best example. Neville has none, but defensively he's still excellent.

I'd have no problem with him being our first choice RB if we had width and pace at RW -- a Donovan type. But we do not, so we need our RB to be decent going forward. This is why we should play Coleman there.

The whole idea that Coleman is gash defensively is a total myth. He's got a lot to learn but I think I'm correct in saying he had our best tackling success ratio last season (it was in one of EB's reports towards the end of the campaign) and his pace allows him to better deal with opposition wingers.

Basically we have better than Neville and should use these better players until injuries or suspensions mean we can't. However to say Neville does nothing or is useless is just a lie, mate.

like everyone he has his good pts and his bad ones but i think he still has to be picked on exp at RB

the prem is gettin so many wide fast players hes the lad to nullify that threat....how many times during the yrs hav we thought we would have got skint by the likes of ronaaldo, bale young johnson etc and hes stood up and b counted

what i wanna see more of is his ear bashing... yesterday he gave rodwell a right bollicking in the 1st half ( i think it was moments before they got the goal) and he was right to as it looked like rodders was just playing the character MR SOFT and i would hav been well chuffed if he had of done it to JAGS right after the goal

Personally I believe it's Tim Cahill's presence that has the biggest influence on our squad, keep Cahill on post playing, I can do without Nev. Defensively ok, past the half way line just looks like a joke.

So, your saying cos people think he is great he is great? What about the people who don't (there are quite a few).

Not making a scapegoat of him at all, and with a wealth of youngns coming through someone with a mass of experience (albeit at utd) it can be good! but he offers NOTHING on the pitch, hasnt done for a while now! In the middle of our toughest financial, mental and even logical period this kind of news is not what evertonians want.

These people who don't think he's great, are they managers, players or fans? Personally I have never heard anyone who's coached or
played with him to have a bad word to say.
At his age he probably knows if he stays his automatic pick days are numbered, Moyes has already stated he wants to give Coleman more experience at right back. Fair enough if you question his abilities that's your right but questioning the loyalty and work ethic of a man who has been nothing but a positive influence on our club is frankly ridiculous.

IMO he's better in midfield than at right back. As a defensive mid, he can concentrate on just being destructive, winning the ball and breaking up the play. Then just play it simple to Mikel or Felli. As full back there are more creative things to do and this is where he falls down.

how so? i`m not being sarky mate- i just have a very negative view of nev. i`m fed up of his `respect` for the opposition all the time- pleading with the ref not to book them etc ffs - whats all that about/

I think we have better options although he plays there willingly. I think people having a go at Neville are just having a kneejerk pop at their favourite scapegoat. A far better question is why are we paying a pouting dutchman mega wages to keep the bench warm or to do the job you described?

No that I won't defend apart from saying he's not the only one I have seen do that. That sort of gentlemanly behaviour unfortunately gets you nowhere when every other team is trying to get ours sent off. But im off the blood and guts mentality who goes mental if one of our players even think about kicking the ball out for an injured player and expect no better from them, its the ref's job to stop the game.
Positive influence is hard for me to prove, its not exactly tangible, but from everything I have heard and read he is a good character in the dressing room, sets an example in training and takes a lot of time with the youngsters. Unfortunately mate it's a lot easier to identify negative influences with players sometimes.

Got no problem with Heitinga in midfield... but then I'm a big fan of 2 defensive mids. They can cover when the full backs go forward, and generally give freedom for others to attack.
The problem at the moment is that we have good footballers like Osman and Arteta playing deep, and then guys who cant keep the ball playing up front. Should be the other way round. Footballers up front and anti footballers towards the back.

bet it is written in has contract that he has got to be free to watch man u away games
