And Onuoha is versatile, he can play at both centre back and right back. Moyes loves these types of players.

Joseph Yobo to move on and maybe senderos not being signed up would leave some room for another versatile defender. And lets face it, our defending hasnt been what we have come to expect in recent seasons, so regardless of numbers maybe moyes feels Onuoha can tighten us up.

The more i think of this the more i like it, if you think Turner was 6 + mill and Smalling just went for 10 mill, 3.7mill for Onuhoa is a bargain if true of course.

I don't disagree with any of your above assessment but it still doesn't change the fact that it would be a complete and utter waste of money to buy a player for RB or RB/CB with Jags, Joey, Distin, Heitinga, & Senderos available as well.

Now...if someone wants to pay up for a backup to Baines, that makes some sense. But in our financial position, we need to be looking at the positions that need some real strengthening.

That would be another creative midfielder and a striker.

I like it. I think at least 1 CB will leave (Yobo, Distin??). Plus factor in the unlikely yet stated nonetheless, "bigfish" contingency involving Jags to Manure. I'd say securing a versatile, talented, & very young RB/CB at a fairly bargain rate is just plain good business.

One thing to keep in mind, while it's great to speak of keeping players together forever, there's a flip side to that coin imo. Players may become unsettled, complacent, or just plain need some shaking up. The art is in finding the perfect balance of the two. And davey strikes me as someone who's playing chess in this regards as opposed to other clubs' chinese checkers.

I don't disagree that, on paper, this may not be the most urgent need. But sometimes, as in all business, a sound opportunity can trump the best ideal yet unrealized concept. Good business tends to play out exactly as its name implies. Good. Business.

The sum total of many net positives over a give time period typically yields....positive!
