Will VAT apply, and who's collecting it saj?
It’ll be done in a way that costs the taxpayer more than it actually gains, I’m sure.
Charging for "missed" appointments would definitely help. My other half had about 70% of her appointments cancel on her at the last minute yesterday.
I agree to an extent, but with people who are really up against it the threat of a fine is just going to compound their problems. People who are deeply mentally ill will have even more reason to not see their GP, for example.

A&E rules need to be made stricter, though, I agree. Emergency care should be reserved for… well, emergencies. People who have minor injuries shouldn’t even be allowed in the building.

Saying the quiet bit out loud is never a good sign. Especially from someone who is known to have shares in US healthcare firms.

Starting to feel like they are trying to push through some sort of privatisation before they are (hopefully) booted out next GE.
Yep. A quick Google search shows it’s pretty clear Javid has been involved with private healthcare firms and is rumoured to own shares.

I am staggered here.

I dunno if it would so much. The amount of money needed spent on bureaucracy and collection would likely be more than the fines themselves.
I thought after changes in the way GP appointments are made, you often feel pressured to take a time that might not be so suitable for you making it more likely you may miss it.

Minor injuries and complaints.
Isn't that what drop in centres are for.

If you're really sick or worried, you'll make the appointment.

Well that’s the thing. Before I left the U.K. could only get appointments on the day so would be working all day and call in the morning to be told they only have say a 3pm available. So I’d take that but be unsure whether I’d be able to go due to work constraints. Don’t think it’s fair to fine people when it’s the system that is at fault.

When my missus was a District Nurse, patients missing appointments was endemic.

If there wasn`t a good reason, they`d strike them off the list after the second missed appointment and they`d then be referred back to the various hospital clinics, that had been been treating them.

It was unusual for them to be on the receiving end of Med Neg Solicitors letters, seeking compo for their clients, that had been struck off for missed appointments lol

Was reading this before.

On one hand he says there should be a 'moderate' charge for those 'wealthy' enough to be able to afford it. But he also says just putting more money into the NHS isn't the answer.

There seems to be a contradiction there unless what he means is 'Keep the poors out'.
