2025/26 Nathan Patterson

McNeil has barely played this season. Putting him in with the "good lads" makes zero sense. Alcaraz has played more than him. He is playing because of injuries, not because he is a favourite of Moyes. Far from it.
Behave, Moyes was talking mcshite up, saying he’s been amazing in training and is a great lad-blah blah blah.

He’s one of his faves, as shown be him getting picked ahead of other options until very recently.

McNeil will start on Wednesday.

The favourites/good lads/good trainers get given grace, so Keane, Tarks and McNeil will all saunter about on Wednesday night again for the first team. Moyes will probably back Tarks for the first gift goal and blame Tim like his skipper.

Patterson, Dibling, aznou, Alcaraz can’t get near the team and then get pelters from some fans when they don’t even kick a ball for us, it’s monumentally baffling.
That’s just football though isn’t it? Or life even. The manager - any manager - will have in mind who they think their better/more reliable players are and they’re unlikely to change that based on one game, which is quite right. They’ll then be judged on whether those decisions are usually right or not. There’s nothing weird about it, it’s just how the world works and always has.

He has started 4 games. He has been available all season.

Who was he getting picked ahead of (whilst sat on the bench)

How does any of this make him a favourite?

Quite simply you are wrong here. Just own it.

Managers live and die by their teams and tactics you are right, and they do continually pick favourites even when one result doesn’t go right.

This ain’t just one game though is it - we’ve had Groundhog Day three times already at home, just like yesterday, with no sign of the gaffer doing anything to prevent it, but that’s not the weird part.

The baffling/weird part is the people actively slating players who haven’t kicked a ball or hardly played for us, and who weren’t involved at all with the disasterclass yesterday, whilst at the same time defending the grocks who are complete dog turd and totally at fault for results like yesterday.

But one game, three games, ten games, the same thing applies. The managers will pick what they think is the best team, we’ll often disagree with them but they clearly have their reasons for the decisions they make and if those decisions consistently go wrong we’ll judge them and so will their bosses.

As has been said by others, Alcaraz has played considerably more than McNeil (and dibling has made the same number and breakdown of appearances but with slightly less minutes overall) so the idea that he’s done sort of untouchable favourite and the others are poor misunderstood outcasts who aren’t treated the same just doesn’t stand up to even the tiniest bit of scrutiny. People always say the players they don’t like are the managers favourites, it’s just a way of trying to rationalise them making a decision we don’t agree with.

Rohl took over for 15 minutes when Patterson went off.

You clearly have an agenda with Patterson. I’m not claiming he’s the answer to our RB problems. It was a bad deal, way overpriced & smells (wasn’t it gerrard & FSW??.), but he’s a RB by trade & did OK.

For Moyes to take O’Brien out of position again was a big mistake.

Yes, I do.

He's tripe. One of the worst players I've ever seen at the club and he should be sold ASAP.

How anyone thinks he can do a job here after proving beyond all doubt how terrible he is at defending is beyond me.

Maybe you have an agenda to try and play terrible players in our team?

Should have kept with him for Brentford and see if momentum continued. As it was Keane and OBrien threw absolute stinkers but that’s fine as long as Patterson doesn’t play because he might have thrown one.

I just don’t understand it with football managers. Moyes will come away from that match not even thinking about the mistakes Keane Tarkwoski O’Brien made but Patterson cant play in case he makes an error and if Dibling has a quiet 45 mins he’s yanked out straight away.
Agree 💯

who are the others? Duncan Ferguson, Steven Naismith, Paul rideout & Nikica jelavic?

….he’s a very poor defender, that is surely obvious by now. I got the impression Moyes was keen to get him off the pitch at Forest as we’d been wide open down that flank all game and got away with it (Dibling also failing to go with runners).

I actually wondered if he’d take Dibling off and ask McNeil to support Patterson but I was glad he gave the RB the hook.

You only have to see who has been selected ahead of him to realise what Managers think. Square pegs, round holes preferred. I don’t even think he’s that good from an attacking perspective. Be surprised if we see him much but if he starts tomorrow, let’s hope he has a worldie.

It's obvious to everyone that he isn't a defender and that he cant play in a flat back four. There's still some belief that he can play further up the pitch though. I dont see it. I see no evidence of him overlapping or being able to consistently link up with with team mates further up the pitch.

Occams Razor needs to be applied: he is what he is - fit for lower league football.

It's a little ironic that you've chosen an Orange as your avatar
Patterson is well able to march in unison with his team mates, can't stay fit though, should march more
