2024/25 Nathan Patterson

Slipped further down the pecking order than he was a couple of weeks ago, now finds himself behind O'Brien, Young and Coleman for the RB position whilst still picking up Premier League wages. I wonder how long till his supporters are fabricating stories about problems with him that the latest management team not to rate him have.

….thought it strange that Moyes reasons for playing O’Brien at RB on Sunday could well have applied to Patterson; ‘I wanted to see him play and I thought he would give us a bit more from an attacking perspective.’

He chose a big CB to play RB ahead of a conventional RB  Surely not a good sign for the lad.

I just think O’Brien was wasting away under Dyche. Smart player and very composed. Patterson a little rough round the edges but can provide a more forward play when chasing a game.

Yet when he came on Patterson looks very very good ......

From an attacking perspective for me is meaning dead balls due to his height.

I think starting JOB was very much a tactical decision as out of possession, we looked like Lindstrom and Myko were essentially playing as wingbacks with JOB essentially as a third CB sitting a little more centrally but shifting to a more conventional RB position when we were attacking.

However spurs looked to mostly attack down our right and we looked to attack mostly down our right so a lot of the game was done out there and he spent more time out there.

Yes bit odd, think it was a bit of man management as well getting O’Brien some game time while taking a look at him, looked a decent player when I’ve seen him play obviously Moyes sees that in training as well. Don’t think Patterson will do anything here, whether that’s through his attitude or staying fit, ability something doesn’t seem right with him when a big tall CB is getting ahead of him in his natural position.

Sorry to burst your bubbles chaps, and not wanting to derail the gist of where you are headed, but obrien wasn’t played at Rb on Sunday, no matter how much it might fit your narrative.

He was the wcb on the right, of the three cbs, with lindstrom playing as a wide midfielder/rwb, in a very dynamic and fluid formation - anyone who was at the match could see this. That’s where Patterson came on, he wasn’t in the three cbs was he, but you lads keep on pushing the nonsense.

Any mention on how shocking young and Keane were when they came on?! No? Strange that, Patterson was miles better than either of them.

Patto will get his chance, and I hope he takes it.

….of course, I should’ve realised that

You should tell David Moyes, who explained Jake's position on camera by saying that young center backs often begin their careers at full back. He also discussed variously how Jake and Jesper were playing in hybrid roles. Out of possession, Jesper became a wing back and Jake moved to center back.

Of course, every manager tells 100% facts at all times don’t they…..

Eeerrrrrmmmm, he wasn’t at full back then was he?

Of course he will move wide when we have the ball, hence “wide cb”.

Moyes can say what he wants, I watched it myself, obrien was the right sided wcb, and it was more a 3-4-3.

Obrien wasn’t at rfb, the same as Myko wasn’t at lfb.

I mean he clearly was at right back for much of the game? As you said, it was a fluid formation so they switched between a flat 4 and 3 centre halves, but he was certainly playing right back to a large extent.

He was just watched the highlights back and he’s as much a RB as he is a RCB in that game. Seems to fit his narrative as he put it to say he wasn’t.
