Honestly, if we end up binning off Doucoure because extending his salary for an additional year supposedly lacked value for money, only for us to then go and pay a sizeable transfer fee plus similar or even greater wages on a crocked 5th centre back, then we deserve absolutely everything that is coming our way!

Moyes does love his utility players for sure, particularly a defensive minded one, but given I expect he has been available for most of the summer, it feels like a reactive signing possibly brought on by JB’s injury. Regardless of how good he is or isn’t, it just feels a little panicky to me, but I could be way off.

It could also be that Ake has only recently been told by City that he can leave... if that is the case.

Given their involvement in the tournament in the US I expect their summer has been disjointed and Pep has spoken about working with fewer players.

Ake would immediately raise he standard of our defenders by a large margin. I find it hard to believe the number that don't want him but would welcome some completely untried young defender from abroad somewhere.

Akanji would almost make more sense considering he's played right back a fair bit. I wouldn't be unhappy if either of them ended up here though, obvious step up in quality from what we have

It's because:

A. He plays in a position that we are already well stocked in, whilst other positions have been neglected for decades.

B. He's crocked.

C. He's very expensive.

Yeah could be right, but he played almost 100 games for city so must have something.
