Great Britain in the world political landscape.
Massive media attention when some ass-hole threatens burning korans near ground zero. Mass media attention, the fools decide against it.
20 crack-pots in Britain decide to threaten burning the representitive of their national export and a few national press ******s pay attention.
Short changed here!

When going to asda today i'm sure i saw a guy stood outside wearing an english defence league jacket. I thought maybe they were having a recruitment drive or soemthing and there was gonna be more of them but i didnt see any.

Then on my way out i was gonna tell him if he didn't like my country he could **** off out of it but he had gone by then.

O my god grow up!!!!!!!! The EDL is not a racist group, it just attracts racists. It is inevitable that some of its followers will be skinheads due to the subject matter but that doesnt mean that guy was! He's probably just a very disgruntled Englishman who is fed up of seeing hordes and hordes of Muslims coming in, trying to implement there backwards ways and kicking up a shitstorm about EVERYTHING. Your constant support of Islam as a religeon is what is making it so dangerous as they know we are terrified of being called racists and can get away with whatever they like. I live near an area where thousands of them protested on the street. 'Death to the west' and all that jazz. They were allowed to do it, freedom of speech. The counter protesters were arrested and or battoned and just generally boxed in while some preacher on a megaphone spread is Middle Eastern crap all over the show. I tell you mate if I didnt know better (i.e. some of the people who follow groups like the EDL) I'd be very tempted!! It's like people in Liverpool hate the tories because they generally favour the middle class and generally vote Labour. Different groups of different people are affected in different ways and that forms their beliefs. Dont think you have any right to look down your nose at an EDL member without knowing his or hers personal agenda. It is people like you who want to do NOTHING and pretend like everything is ok with there burkahs, there oppression of women and there constant exposure to extremism due to FEAR of being called racist which is slowly but surely destroying this country. Things need to be done, changes need to happen. Hence, conservatives. Not saying their the best, not by a long shot, but at least they won't have the same soft touch approach to Islam. Or I hope not.

can these extremists from the muslim faith also be classed as fascists, racists and bigots Dave ? or is that tag only applicable to the white man, because these guys are doing their best to promote racial hatred to 'their' people and at the same time are promoting it with the so called 'white christians' as well. They will probably say that their mantra isn't aimed at anyone of colour though because they have also been victims of oppression from the white man.

Autobahns and the beetle for 2. Our gov. was onside with him until he lost the plot, just as they were with Saddam, arming him to the teeth when he was at war with Iran, a certain lady was supplying him with arms from our state owned ordnance factories.

Well worth the sacrifice made by millions then.

Our government onside? Not my government. The Brits had little choice but play along as their armed services had been emasculated by successive governments after the Great War. It would also have had a near impossible job to persuade you Brits to fight a war so so soon after the First until and unless the public could see it was really the only way forward. There was also the question of public finances being on the slide ... tricky buying bullets and bombs if you've only got three bob in the kitty.

As to being onside, politically, there were swathes of society which were anti Semitic (at that time, Jews were the Muslims - blamed for everything) and which also longed for the smack of firm government, preferably a dictatorship, and who admired both Mussolini and Hitler.

British people seem to have no very clear idea of their own history, do they? But why spoil some good prejudice with facts.

by "you brits" I am assuming that you are from across the pond ? i seem to recall that we were more than willing to take on the Nazis and it was the yanks that wouldn't have any part of it until they got bombed.

If You Know Your History and all that.

Add to that the fact that we have had to reimburse america for their involvement and also pay for the repairing of the cities that were bombed, don't see us being reimbursed for helping the u.s. out in their war now, only thanks we get is our lads wiped out by trigger happy yanks.

You can point out my prejudice to me if you don't mind ? as I am clearly in your eyes a racist and a bigot that doesn't state any factual information.

apparently you aren't american but irish catholic, so there'll be a well balanced impartial view of the british there then.

Call me a bigot lad and i'll respond with some opinions of my own.

I think Delia sums up quite nicely America's involvement at the start of World War II

I couldn't get past that first bit. Classic.

That exact line goes to show that brainwashing goes on on either side, he doesn't shy away from saying why he feels this way though, as he lives in area that has seen a huge influx in the population, so people that don't live in similar areas won't really why he feels like that.

I remember something in sydney, I can't remember which train station it was that a fella used to drop me at but there was a mosque beside it (maybe Sydenham), there had been a fresh influx of people there that were calling for segregation in the schools etc, but the imman was having none of it and said that they had a good relationship with the local pop. which would be strained by asking for such things, and made it known that where these people had come from (same place as him) didn't have segregated schools. He was grateful to them for accommodating things that were alien to them, but pointed out that it was wrong to take the piss and ask for things that they didn't actually have in their homelands.

The thing I can't figure out about the English English English Defence League is that they claim to be defending our country but every time they protest they seem to spend their time smashing it up.

Weird.

There was a large isolationist political movement in the US prior to WWII that wanted nothing to do with the "European war" for reasons of geography etc they thought themselves safe.

Many American's found out to their cost (at Pearl Harbour) this was hugely misguided. Hence after the unprovoked surprise attack on "that day of infamy" they became directly involved.

To make the sweeping generalisations you have Reidy about the US is really not on.

I rarely agree with that dixie1928 person, but both of you are making sweeping generalisations about the UK and US and their roles in the world.

"The Brits had little choice but play along as their armed services had been emasculated by successive governments after the Great War" - rubbish. they had to go along with treaty obligations limiting the size of ships, numbers of aircraft and tanks - something that Hitler avoided.

Also Britain was not helped by GEOGRAPHY in that its empire at the time was spread out across the world. It faced two principle regional threats from Germany in Europe/Afica and Japan in Asia

Therefore splitting British forces in two and undermining the "maximisation of force" principle.

Also the US. Faced the same point. Many American's wanted to deal with Japan first. However, due to reasons of technology - all the best physicists were GERMAN - there was a correct fear that there was no time not to not deal with Germany immediately due to fear of the bomb which was theorised as possible from as early as 1919!

Both the US and UK were victims of circumstance. Just like we are now.

We have a sworn-enemy is determined some would say insanely determined to destroy our societies. Abit like the Nazi/imperialist enemy we faced in 1930's.

However, this one tries to do so within and without. And by "playing the system" and political correctness gone mad.

This one also has no fear of killing you and me, whilst killing themselves at the same time. To surplant our society with their own.

Tell me. Is that not something to be afraid of I don't know what is?
