Muhamed Besic

Rest Barry and rotate the 3. Something tells me McCarthy is still awhile off starting and playing a high quality 90 though; hips/groins are funny funny things.

I'm a Cleverley fan, but he is half the central midfielder Besic is! Barry needs to play alongside a defensive midfielder

lol

trying to be amusing and right wing in your posting sentiment - like a GOT version of Roy Chubby Brown

Besic is twice the player McCarthy is IMO

Just remember how good McCarthy has been for us.

FGS, people were suggesting that Besic should leave as 'he'd not really kicked on' (even though he'd been injured all season) just a few weeks ago!

Besic is showing what a player he can be (and is going to be). And no, I don't think he should be automatically dropped when McCarthy regains fitness.

But at this point, if I had to pick between a fully fit McCarthy and a fully fit Besic, then I'd choose McCarthy.

Hopefully, we'll get to see what they can do as a partnership soon enough with the run of games we've got coming up. Would seem suitable to try out against Carlisle.

what are your thoughts on Mccarthy starting over Besic now he seems 100% fit to play? knowing Besic he wouldnt mind at all and say somethin along the line of: "its the gaffers decision ill keep doing my best"

Would be no surprise if he gets dropped from first team tbh, since mccarthy is far more experienced in the PL and is proven beyond 5 games

Great posts keno, seeing as you're totally new to the forum and haven't posted before, do you have a view, or MULTIple views on Mirrrallas starting ?

Has he really been that good for us though?? He's been decent, he hasn't been exceptional. He's a solid 7/10 player. Sometimes better than that and rarely worse than that.

You say that as if it's a fact. It isn't, it's your opinion.

I like them both but I think Besic can do everything McCarthy can and more.

In fairness mate I thought it would be obvious that it's my opinion, but yeh, on this occassion - without coming across as arrogant - I think i'm right. As I said, Besic has been brilliant since his return, and I in way dispute that or think that McCarthy should get straight back in the team ahead of him.

However, I also think McCarthy has come in for a lot of unfair stick on here and he is now becoming very under-rated. His importance to the team is second to none.

Ideally, Besic and McCarthy will go on to form a pretty formidable partnership.

First season he was excellent. Last season he pretty much single-handedly got us out of the mire we'd managed to get ourselves into while he'd been out injured.

We wouldn't have conceded as many goals with him in the side as we have if he hadn't have gone off injured against Bournemouth - in fact I'm pretty certain we'd have gone on to see that game out comfortably if he had come on.

Besic is a class player, but I still think McCarthy edges it. Just an opinion though, but like I said only a month or so ago some people were calling for Besic to be sold...

McCarthy is all but useless when we have the ball though, and it puts a lot of pressure on Gareth Barry to go and get the ball and provide options. McCarthy doesn't seem to have the same desire to tackle that Besic has either. It's no coincidence that we've looked better with Besic in there alongside Barry, as Besic also comes deep to receive the ball and move it on when we have it, and when we don't he's more than prepared to close people down and get the ball back.

McCarthy does cover a lot of ground at times, with more forward runs but I often wonder if he's really just leaving us open at the back when he does that as he offers very little in terms of attacking play. I'd rather they just told him to sit back and cover the defence.

Fixed.

Thought last season McCarthy had a lot of quiet games early on. Same this season. But when he plays well we do look a better team with him in it. Likewise with Besic though.

I liked all of this post apart from the bit in bold which is, with respect, absolutely bonkers.

I'd stress that you go back and watch our first goal against Stoke the other week mate... Or our fourth vs Sunderland

I think it s a great thing that we can now have real impact sub in that position whoever is on bench and that players can be rest from time to time and fight for a place. On other hand maybe handing out McCarthy place back a sec hes fit with Besic playing great could have bad impact on Besic and McCarthy.Mo may be discouraged and McCarthy may have thought that it is his place regardless of preformase these two players. Martinez has to be careful with man managing whatever decision is at the time. But having those two players it is a good thing and can make a real push for both players to do even more on it if everything was done properly.
