It's quite a conundrum actually

What I would say is that I still think it is a case of who partners Barry - Barry still is the best passer of a ball in our midfield and his positional play is absolutely brilliant, the amount of times he seems to find himself in the right place at the right time is amazing and you'd have to put that down to his experience. He also uses the ball better than anyone else we have available there (with the arguable exception of Gibson, who doesn't really count). He does need someone next to him with pace though and both Besic and McCarthy can do this.

As far as the Besic vs McCarthy debate goes - Besic's low centre of gravity and comfort with the ball in tight areas gives us another dimension in the way we like to keep the ball and build from deep. I was quite critical of his choice of pass at times last season and occasionally he still gives the ball away in dangerous areas, but it's more because of his confidence I think than anything. McCarthy is a more powerful runner and you'd like to think that over the next 18 months they can develop a partnership as Barry inevitably declines. McCarthy isn't the best with the ball at his feet at times and doesn't have anything like Besic's ability to hold onto the ball in tight areas but his sheer energy, power and pace is something that Besic can't match and he doesn't take the chances that Mo does.

It's a difficult one, but Besic has been so good lately (and I was his biggest critic at times last season) that dropping him would be unjustifiable to me at the moment. It's a great problem to have though.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Couldnt have asked for a better response on the question aswell;)

OT:
Would be no surprise if he gets dropped from first team tbh, since mccarthy is far more experienced in the PL and is proven beyond 5 games, all in all I'm very glad Everton gave him a shot so he could prove his talents to the fans and RM that he is up for the challenge.

The lad is young and has developed tremendously in 2 years time, just imagine what he will be like in years to come, you blues did a great job signing him.

I'm sure he will be a starter in the near future though cant deny quality for too long, untill then, imo having besic as a sub is what dreams are made of haha
