Strangely ive also seen Gibson do it for Ireland as well.

But it's how they are deployed by Martinez. McCarthy himself said last season that Roberto had him playing deeper at Everton than Wigan, mainly because we have better attacking midfielders than Wigan. Or Ireland, for that matter. Same goes for Gibson.

McCarthy will go on in the same role he's played until now, he's fantastic there.

If Besic signs I expect he'll be viewed as J-Mac's long term partner, but he'll share duties with Barry for the first year or two. It'll be up to Gibbo to prove he has the stuff to be more than a backup to the above 3, which is exciting as I rate Gibbo.
