Its not about defending it, its facts. We didnt have a strong enough squad to cope with firstly Pienaar and then Arteta leaving- they needed to be replaced and they werent that is a fact.

We get Pienaar back and add to that Gibson and then Jelavic we started playing well and getting results.

Call me a fool and put it in your signature if you want but I have a good feeling about next season. We have put together a winning team and have been playing some decent football. Keep that together and dont lose any of the big players and I think you will see us have a good start middle and decent end.

Also Ill give you some more predictions:

- Pappe Cisse will struggle to score goals next season
- Newcastle will be no where near the top 8
- Manchester United will win the league in a three horse race with Man City and ARSENAL
- We will get into Europe

I think Moyes can say whatever he wants. Looking at our squad and our somewhat weak bench a top 10 finish is certainly an achievement. The Arteta sale forced us to change things tactically which I think took time to kick in. I think some fans are disillusioned by our former glories. We're skint with some aging players. I think it is good he is a realist about the situation of the club financially.

I am not sure what people are expecting at this point. You want Moyes to come out and say a top four finish? Because then he will be getting stick when we don't finish there. Everyone I talk to and read believe that we "punch above our weight" because we do well against big clubs without big club money. Until we get some real investment I am happy with this and finishing in the top 10. I would like an FA or Carling Cup once in a while though.....However I remember the whiners when we started out slow, whining about us being in a relegation fight at the end of the season. Yet here we sit at 7th with the ****e behind us. Not bad if you ask me.

Well said.

And before people jump on to the 'accepting mediocrity' band wagon read what he has said- 'until we get investment' For our net spend we achieve better than any other club (accept next seasons 9th placed club Newcastle)

Net spend does not come into semi finals,or derby games against struggling opposition managers a lot to answer for those two games, and usual poor starts to season.

Agree with everything there bar us getting into Europe

or take the pressure off the players.
depends how you look at it suppose

Take the pressure of the players ?

Judging by our performance in the Semi against Liverpool pressure was the last thing we're feeling.

We are 7th in the league with 2 games to play, there is no pressure to relieve. It amazes me that people can defend him saying he's happy with 10th.

'We're going to push as hard as we can and i think 7th is where we deserve to be when you look at our squad and the way we've been playing.'

Where's the pressure in that ?

When would you ever hear Alex Ferguson saying he's happy with mediocrity?

There's a difference between taking the pressure off players and accepting defeat.

It would be like SAF saying

'If somebody had offered me runners up to Man City i would have taken it all day, we're going to try our best'

He would be murdered.

Mancini says they have no chance of winning the league.
Does that mean he's defeatist?

It's just words.
Moyes will not be running around Finch Farm telling players it is ok if we lose.

It's some of you who are defeatist methinks.
