Moyes Watch @ Real Sociedad

I think his problem was he didn't change enough. Van Gaal changed everything, Moyes had his hands largely tied. Doesn't mean he's have been a success but he would have done better without a host of ex United players, the media and I suspect people at the club saying 'you have to play a certain formation, you have to use these youth players, these certain players have to play, you need to play a certain style'. Van Gaal got a blank cheque book, could play how he wanted and sold off half the squad including youth players.

If you pick a manager you should expect to play the way he wants to play and back him in the market to deliver that over the course of three seasons.

If United wanted a manager to play 442 then why did they hire David Moyes who has always gone 4142 or 4231. When he actually grew a pair and played his formation his results actually got a bit better. They've learned their lesson this time round and Van Gaal is playing an ultra defensive 433 as un United as you can get.
Huh?

All arguments could easily be applied to our current manager. Why would 8th be seen as a success when recently we've been top 6 and we've smashed our transfer record? Or you could say for Mourinho, why is he under pressure when Chelsea have recently not been a title winning side?

Sociedad were 4th then sold all their best players. A succession of managers then had them looking at relegation so Moyes was brought in. He may have underperformed but I don't see the point in sacking a manager after not even one full season because you came fourth not that long ago.

As I said, you'd need a glimmer of something.

Martinez gave Everton their highest ever points total. Hence it buying him time.
Mourinho's record at Chelsea speaks for itself.

You could argue most managerial sackings are premature, but the game's the game.

I understand Moyes really annoyed their fans by saying he'll stay until his contract ends and that's it - which I believe is the end of the season. They don't owe Moyes anything, and so, why tolerate a manager who is off soon anyway?

I can see your point. In general I just don't understand owners appointing certain types of managers then firing them not even 12 months later for not being what they thought they were. If Sociedad wanted Moyes just to save them from relegation then why not give him just an interim contract? Instead they gave him a long one and Moyes' history at Everton showed he can restructure a club given time. Balague has stated that he has tried to do this but no one wanted it and so now he's being fired.

There are some bad managers out there, but I don't think Moyes is one of them. Instead he has been appointed by stupid chairmen who mismatched him to the job they wanted (or thought they wanted). Bill realised what Everton needed and matched Moyes perfectly even showing patience with an awful second season.

If United wanted things to stay the same why did they hire a rebuilding specialist? If Sociedad wanted a return to the champions league but didn't want to change anything and sold all their best players why did they hire Moyes on a long term deal?

Let managers manage then you can see what they are capable of. Yes the results could have been better but he deserved longer in my opinion. Less than a full season is ridiculous for a new manager tasked with turning a team around.

I agree with you, Moyes is not a bad manager he is just not a very good manager.

TBH, I think that was a bit lost in translation. He effectively said, so I believe, I am here for as long as I have a contract, meaning, as long as you want me here.

Well, turns out they don't want you there Davey.

He'll be a better manager for the experience though.

Not really a shock.

Unlucky there Davey bollocks.

Just wonder if he knows that he would have been thought well of by Evertonians had he not acted the way he did at United or does he think we don't particularly like him because he left. Impossible to know but it seems his PR skills have deserted him again. I think he would have been a great manager in the 70's
