I have problems with Martinez's approach at times, but at least the man generally has ambition for his club. For seven years (yes, seven), I saw a manager who didn't give a toss beyond making sure we didn't plummet, so that his reputation as a miracle worker in the first half of his reign here was preserved.
Seven years since he did something of note to improve a side under his management - a lifetime in management. Two proven abject failure spells in charge of clubs since leaving us, with his latest one that should have been a cakewalk. All he had to do was turn a half decent side into top half makeweights, which even I thought he'd be able to do, and he hasn't.
He's not the sure fire thing for anyone barring the very lower dregs of the league. Perhaps Newcastle if he's lucky and they're bottom three and desperate; that's as big as he's getting.
