Records, as they say, are made to be broken and tonight we have a genuine chance to smash two of them in one felt swoop

Yeah guess so tbh, oh well, just hope we can win tonight, already had 8 hours of started to feel optimistic followed by thinking about how it can go wrong, followed by what if we hang on this time, fml. need to stop my conspiracy theories forming into why we cant beat teams in red at their ground whose name starts with a letter above N in the alphabet.

Beer needed now

How many draws, though? And against teams, at home, we should be spanking?
All well and good to point out we've beaten City, Spurs and United at home this season. The team Moyes has built is good enough to do that. But those results lose a fair bit of their lustre when you toss in the home draws vs. Newcastle, Norwich, Swansea and Villa and the away losses at Reading and Norwich and road draws at QPR, Wigan and Southampton. Not saying we would have won all of those, but a team as good as this one shouldn't be dropping as many points as it has to teams far below them in the table.

Working on this principle that moyes has built a good team capable of beating spurs, city and utd at hone and that he should be beating the likes of Norwich Newcastle etc etc too means that in principle man utd should never ever lose cause they have assembled the best squad in the league. It's football mate, if everton beat say 2 of the so called top 4 away from home each year but say finished 15th would you be happy. Look moyes net spend is peanuts compared to most of the premier league yet he delivers better performances than most. That's the stat I like. Look at moyes net spend last summer compared to the teams he is competing against. Look at how far we have come? Given the current backing which moyes gets where do you realistically think we can go. Or is your only gripe we have not won away against utd, chealsea, arsenal and Liverpool.

To me, over that length of time you'd would at least won once.

I'm sure we've played the RS at Klanfield when they've been down to 10men more than once and we still haven't won.

This is the worset time to meet Arsenal, in form and a great record against us. This will not be easy tonight. If we win then it would be a mega result.

13W, 9D, 5L. More draws and losses than wins. If we assigned pts it would be 48 pts from 26 games, which would be a decent enough record if it were against all sides in the PL. Ofcourse really you should take the cup games out, but I couldn't be arsed.

1 more draw and loss to the amount that we have won. i.e points dropped
17 more wins and draws to the amount that we have lost.. i.e points gained

Guess you group the draws on whether your trying to argue for or against really. Should be wins v losses, draws are neutral and serve both arguments.
13 wins v 5 defeats is pretty good.

For those busying themselves reminding us all just how few games we've won at Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea and The Pit here's a little stat to keep you quiet.

Last 41 games vs Spurs, Arsenal, City, United, Chelsea and The RS
(since January 2010)

Won 15 Drew 11 Lost 15 F 49 A 52

Home: 13-3-5-29-19
Away: 2-8-10-20-33

Or put another way SIXTEEN points a season from those 12 games.

Woof.

We're some team at home.

Same with his cup record, its not so much that that and his record away to the original "top 4" are bad, its just that they're not as as good as his record at home and overall in the league.

We pretty much always give those teams a good game hence the draws and lack of big defeats, just at home we'll likely step up and get a win, away we'll unable to take that extra step.

If we were just total gash all round you couldn't really complain about it. Its when he does such a good job of making us one of the top 5-8 teams in the league regularly but has us with simialr cup records to rubbish teams and with less wins on certain grounds than other rubbish teams.

Which doesn't mean we should be like them, its just odd and worth discussing why.

The fact that there is no such thing as the law of averages is probably the best explanation as to why we're without a win at those grounds over 11 seasons (until tonight!).

Theres no such thing as the law of averages in the literal sense, but I think you could apply it in expecting Everton to win
occasionally in 40 attempts against 4 other clubs in the same league.

It wouldn't apply if I expected to beat Rory McIlroy even once if I played 400 rounds of golf against him.

How many draws have we managed, and how many premier league teams (including the sky 4) would bite your hand off if you offered them a point at any of those grounds?

We fairly often take 3-4 points off Chelsea, City, and Spurs, and every once in a while do so against Man United and Arsenal. that's an incredible accomplishment.

Of course none of that matters, because points matter but in the context of an entire season where they come from really doesn't.
