Moyes only given 6 million from Rodwell Fee

Point is that Rodwell's numerous injuries had an impact on the fee. If he had played 30 games last season and was in the starting 11, then the fee would have been higher. He might even have gone to Polkraine instead of Henderson as well. A fee of £20 up front would have been more realistiv.

Actually yes. £15m with add ons I could have just about accepted. I find it hard to believe that after banking £10m for Arteta and getting so many big earners of the wage bill that we're so hard pressed that we accept City's first offer on Rodwell. Why didn't we stand firm nearer to £20m and try to trigger a bidding war with Chelsea and United? It was done so quickly that they didn't have a chance to move. I can only reason that a relatively low price was accepted with his injury record in mind and that the add ons are if he proves his fitness rather than based on accomplishments.

Sad fact was Rodwell wasn't worth 20 million. He wasn't even first choice for us. When he did get a run of game he couldn't keep a clean bill of health. If he was really worth 20 million don't you think SAF and the Glazers would have snapped him up last year. We got a decent deal with the add ons. It all comes down to how much Moyes gets from the sale to improve the squad.

Injury problems limited Rodwell to just 14 top flight appearances last season but Platt does not anticipate major issues with regards to the youngster's health.

"We don't think there will be any problems - the hard work has been done," he said.

They're minor niggles IMO. Walcott for eg had the same, Cleverly and Wilshire have missed a whole season with worst injuries than muscles tweeks etc.

And dont forget, we rushed Rodwell back and ripped his hamstring to bits last season.

We compromised. We've been batting em back with a ****ty stick for seasons and we've now folded when we needed the cash and Citeh were the ones who wanted to make a legit move - Platt said it last night.

"I think there is a great deal of potential there and so does Robbie, and we looked at it and thought it is the right thing to do, the opportunity came along for us to do it this summer, at the right money business wise, and we feel that we can provide him with the platform to realise that potential which has been there for a long time.

"We have seen him a few times, we have been to have a look and the opportunity is there, we don't think he has realised his potential and we think we can give him that stage."

We couldnt wait to get shut.

Rodwell didn't look out of place when England beat Spain and he's been a monster at U21 level. If you look at our stats when he played with Fellaini we let in very few goals from open play. He's capable of more than that though. He could learn a lot from Yaya at City. With Hart, Richards, Lescott, Milner and Johnson at Eastlands they could have the basis of the England side for years to come. Surely they can't believe that they got him for just £12m.

He was first choice until he got injured.

Still we got paid for his potential, not his current ability.

Cleverly and Wilshire did not have injuries in the season before that like Rodwell did. Both of them carried their teams (Cleverly for Wigan at the time), something Rodwell never has been.

I liked Rodwell and believed he would be superb, but when Gibson managed to contribute more to the team in 2-3 months than Rodwell had in 4 seasons I had to re-evaluate my views on him.

That's the way I see it.

Boss move for him to improve.

Rancid we only got a small amount out of the boy.

Do you honestly think this was done and dusted between Sat and Sun mate?

This will have been in the pipe line for a few weeks,Kenwright will have sounded out Chelsea,Utd and everybody else in the world to see how many partys wanted to bid on him

It would seem only City wanted to play ball

It's surprising that nobody got a sniff of it sooner and that we took him to Spain with us if it had been brewing. To me it seems like City felt they needed to get a deal done after Mancini criticised Marwood in the press at the end of last week. Fergie has the Moura money burning a hole in his pocket and is known to have been a long time admirer, so it's odd that he wasn't interested at such a good price. Even Arsenal might have fancied him if they could move Song on to Barcelona for a healthy sum.

Besides Platt is not gonna go out and say: "well we know he has injury problems, so we'll have to wait and see if he can last a season"
