Anyone have good insight into his situation at Newcastle? Was he the problem or was it how he was used by Steve McClaren etc? Could Koeman get a lot more out of him?

He's been poor and uninterested at Newcastle a long time before McLaren got there.

I'd have him. Think if you get the best out of him he is a very good midfielder, powerful, pacy and good in attack and defence.

Like i said the last time this was mooted. He has been playing under pardew carver and mclaren, playing alongside some terrible players as well.
He is a good player, just been in a terrible football club for too long.
