For me it's the same reason I don't like Tom Waits. It just all seemed so calculated and all about presentation, you never got the impression that you knew the guy behind the art. Which was maybe the point, but each to their own.

Waits probably gets why many people don't get him and he's fine with that I think.

I remember seeing an advert on TV for their "Best of", and the strap line was "You know more Crowded House songs than you think". Now if that's not damning with faint praise I don't know what is. Second only to Lighthouse Family in bland mediocrity.
