This isn't a ringing endorsement, but not a condemnation either. War On Drugs, for me, is something I put on when I don't really know what I feel like listening to. Or something for a random group of people that everyone can kind of listen to. Nothing earth shattering. Very listenable.

I wouldn't say that they are an inconsequential band. Just nothing amazing. And in their own way, they do that very, very well.
They're very polarising though - some people hate them. My entire family start yelling at me to switch off the Dad music!! if I put Lost in the Dream on in the car.

I love them but it's a strange brew and no mistake. A lot of 80s influences very prominent in the mix like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits that you'd expect would lead to something very beige, but it's the opposite - a really deep sound.

That's crazy to me. I guess no one I associate with would ever think War On Drugs was terrible. The debate would be whether they would fall into the great category or not

Everything up to and including American Idiot is solid gold. They're absolutely awful now though both in output and live shows.

Oh Parker not sure I can agree with this. Obviously the 2 monsters in their back catalogue are Dookie and American Idiot, however my favourite is 21st Century Breakdown, just love that album more so than Dookie or American Idiot.

For me the only really grim piece of work was Uno, Dos, Tre. Revolution Radio is just okay, and I'm liking Father Of All...so far.

Saw them at First Direct Arena in Leeds for Revolution Radio tour and it was one of the most intense gigs I have ever been to. Got tickets for Hella Mega and can't wait

I liked them when they where a punk band tbh mate. My personal favourite is insomniac, if I had my way I'd get Billie Joe back on the crystal meth so he can make more 200mph 2 minute punk ragers instead of whatever the hell hes doing now.

Well jealous of that last bit, I missed out on the tickets. I really wanted them for Weezer.

I also see a lot of Fleetwood Mac in them too.

Under the Pressure is a belting tune off that album too.

Father of all is kind of heading back to the 2 minute ragers. Can also kinda see that their latest offering is them sticking two fingers up to Warner, basically [Poor language removed] them and the man, isn't that the essence of punk?

I used to like them but their last few albums have bored me. I think I preferred them when Kurt Vile was still there.

They`re really hard to describe, as there`s that many influences there - The melodies of Fleetwood Mac immediately spring to mind, with some Floydesque guitar thrown in for good measure.

Definitely. There’s some Tom Petty in there too.

The band started with Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile over their shared love of Bob Dylan. Kurt went solo, but Adam kept it going and the Dylan influence is all over his writing and vocal delivery.

Beyond me how Oasis ever made it beyond the pub circuit.

A combination of things... They were a belting live act, Alan McGee was signing anything that moved in the days just after he punted half of Creation to Sony, once they interviewed really well and had that "lad" thing that went over well in the mid 90s and the mastering on their first album is HUGE.
