Currently, The War on Drugs
All time? The Band

It`s a weird one with the War on Drugs, as in the States they`re stadium fillers and over here, they`re still a bit of a cult band.

They`re 100% my most favourite recent band.

I only got into them by pure fluke, as I was in a shop on Lark Lane a while back and they had the track " Pain " on in the back ground. ( It was number 1 in the States at the time, but getting no air play here are at all !! )

I was that blown away by it, I went and asked the fella at the till who it was.

He had the Deeper Understanding album on CD and played a few more tracks for me.

I went out and bought Deeper Understanding and Lost in the Dream the same day.

I`ve been in love with them ever since and are on my No 1 to see live list.

This isn't a ringing endorsement, but not a condemnation either. War On Drugs, for me, is something I put on when I don't really know what I feel like listening to. Or something for a random group of people that everyone can kind of listen to. Nothing earth shattering. Very listenable.

I wouldn't say that they are an inconsequential band. Just nothing amazing. And in their own way, they do that very, very well.

Must confess I'd never heard of them mate. Just googled "Pain". Thought it was heavily influenced by the British 80s scene. I enjoyed it.

Is their stuff readily available in the UK or do need to download it. ?

I can see why you say that, but I just got them straight away, which is rare for me nowadays !

I absolutely love them personally, but I'm amazed we've got to 58 pages of this thread without anyone naming The Velvet Underground.
It's because there's foolish opinion and then there's massively stupid. VU were great.

Journey has sold nearly as many records worldwide as U2. U2 seems to be running away with the title of the most overrated and craptacular band. Journey isn't fit to clean up U2's excrement (and there's plenty of it).

Honesty he only picked up momentum here in the Indie/Americana world. As far as popular music goes, he is still unknown here. Great stuff though.

They`re really hard to describe, as there`s that many influences there - The melodies of Fleetwood Mac immediately spring to mind, with some Floydesque guitar thrown in for good measure.
