Gordon’s just posted this now. Cryptic

I didn’t know he was coming out of contract. It’s therefore not bizarre to ask why he would be sold.

Seemed strange to me that Wolves would sell an appreciating asset to us as we are in direct competition.

Yes I was seeking an answer. In this case it seems to be that he was getting to the end of his contract. Do you not think that it is legitimate to ask why a club would want to sell a player?

Over the last 2 summer transfer windows (before this one) there have only been around 11 transfers between premier league teams where there a reasonable fee has been paid.

They have generally been big money purchases from one of the big six or them selling their unwanted players.

No player have been bought for any significant amount of money between direct rivals except arguably Kurt Zouma although Chelsea probably do not consider West Ham do be in direct competition. I disregard Helder Costa and Will Hughes.

In other words it's quite unusual and therefore it is also legitimate to ask why would Wolves let him go particularly when Moutinho is 36 and there's a lot of noise around Neves moving and they may become light in central midfield.

What I was particularly objecting to was the manner in which my original comment was responded to.

Basically mate, similar situation to why we decided to sell Richy in a way.

2 years left, won't sign a new contract, so next year his value would half as a minimum - wolves aren't able financially now to take a 15m hit by keeping a player who won't extend.

It's only bizarre if you don't know if a player is coming to the end of his contract. Actually he has a further two years on his contract and therefore they are not under immediate pressure.

I have made a point in another post that transfers with significant payments between two direct rivals in the premier league are rare. I appreciate Sterling is a recent example but that is unusual. There have not been similar transfers in the last two summer transfer windows.

So I think it is entire legitimate to ask the question particularly as we have a history of having our pants pulled down - Keane, Ashley Williams, etc.. I have barely seen MGW play and I don't pretend that I would be able to tell if he would be good for us or not.

Wolves will have a pretty clear understanding of his abilities and what he is like in the team environment. They have Moutinho (aging) and Neves (who may be on the move) in their midfield and are potentially weakening themselves further by selling MGW.

So that is why I was asking why they would sell and I took into account their circumstances.

Anthony Gordon has a year longer on his contract. If Gordon didn't sign an extension and we sold him next summer transfer window for the 20 million pounds bandied about for MGW would you be happy? Would you do so if you had a 36 year old midfielder and your other midfielder possibly leaving. Would you expect that a well run club (Wolves appear to be a well run club) would sell even with only two years left on his contract.
A well run club in terms of finances will sell at that two year point if they know for sure the player won't extend, if the players worth to the team outweighs the financial hit then sometimes they'll keep him to get the use - but thsts more often with someone already indespensible

Only difference being that he hasn't had a sniff in the first team at Woves in years.

Joe Willock
Lucas Digne
Danny Ings
Dan James
Jannick Vestergaard
Chris Wood
Dan Burn
Ben Gibson
Emiliano Buendia
Craig Dawson
Richarlison
Gabriel Jesus
Matt Targett
Yves Bissouma

I did say the last two summer windows and between premier league teams in direct competition which would exclude a number of those name but to be fair your point is well made.

If only you had some photos of yourself with an Everton hero that you could post to prove them all wrong...
Oh sure... not a bloody chance am I giving those who have already abused me another chance to do so. I'm not that insecure I need approval from a bunch of interweb warriors. Nice try though... I figured you'd angle it that way. ;)

I do find it strange you changed your profile picture to Richarlison AFTER he was sold.

That seems to be what an Everton fan would do.

Apparently, Morgan Gibbs-White was seen at the cash machine on West Derby Road and was supposed to have said...

"Kopites are Gobshites… especially the ones who pretend to be Evertonians on a forum." Make of it as you will.
