Moneyball

It looks like a combination of players Koeman wants and players Walsh wants. I'm sure there's some overlap, but I'd guess Walsh wants a smarter, slower build, while Koeman wants Champions League tomorrow.

I feel very strongly that one is the correct approach and the other is not, but I suppose that's open to debate.

How about if I told you that the vast majority of our signings were Walsh picks?

Koeman was responsible today of course but he asked for a target man and a left footed center-back and I blame that on the board for not delivering. It's still 4 games into his 2nd season so I won't quick to draw conclusion. At least he is better than the previous clown we had.

Not at this comparative stage of their tenures he ain't.

Instead of signing the big name striker (or keeping lukaku like a big club would) we've tried to buy 6 cheaper options instead and hope it works. That's moneyball. And it looks an utter shambles so far.
If we had replaced him with a few lesser strikers yes but this is anti-moneyball!

So what are the club trying to do? We seem to be buying players with potential to improve/increase in value ( sigurdsson the obvious outlier this summer - bought to appease koeman maybe?)

Are we attempting moneyball, and just doing it badly? Are koeman and Walsh at odds with each other - three no 10s signed would suggest something has gone wrong with whatever we're trying to do - along with what we're seeing on the pitch
Don't forget Bill signing Rooney in that mix.
