Modern jerseys are crap

Money has meant shirts needed to change.

Clubs are paid to have their kits made by a specific brand.

These brands look to cut costs of designing kits by making uniform kits that have the same design in different colours.

Slap some crap logos on top such as Angry Birds and Sports Pesa and what do you get?

A crap-looking kit!

Oh my dear god it’s an article of clothing if you don’t like it don’t buy it. If you like the old ones buy one of the retro remakes.

Any excuse to have a dig at the club eh?

Another thing spoilt by money

Never buy anything advertised is my mantra. If it were any good it would sell on reputation. If enough people realised this it would stop working and we could rid our environment of this visual litter.

That is all.

How do you manage that? I can't even post to GOT without using something that was advertised at some point or another. Even my electricity supplier advertises. And my ISP.

What I mean is, when I want something I go looking for it and research the best product. I dont buy something because a billboard brainwashed me into knowing its 'out there' or just because a brand is plastered everywhere you look then it's the best. If find in most cases it isn't. It's a mantra I try to adhere to and it never let's me down.

You dont see Rolls Royce having to advertise do you? Go out for a meal to a branded place like Macdonalds or KFC and you know you're going to get cheap crap. If I wanted a burger or cholesterol loaded chicken I'd get far better fayre in a local pub. There was something I bought a few years ago that I was very pleased with and THEN caught an advert for it on the telly and was very disappointed in myself! lol

These retro shirts are wrong anyway. Never had any fancy embroidery on in ‘66. Can’t vouch for the material as they didn’t really do replica merch back then. Didn’t change designs every season either...

Everton’s shirts are particularly bad. I don’t know why we try our best to produce training tips, inside out kits, Wigan kits, or something that looks like a rugby league kit. I hate to say it but that lot over the park have turned out some decent kits recently under New Balance. Our Angry Birds logo is far too big and we can never seem to resist a stupid collar or pattern or bit of neon on the sleeve. Wouldn’t be hard to create a really classy looking royal blue Everton kit but it seems to be beyond Umbro these days.
The umbro shirts of 07/08 and 08/09 were probs the best we've had, also helped by a good memory of having a decent team.

There is a value to advertising letting people know a product is out there. People aren't going to research whether a product suits their needs if they aren't aware of it's existence.

Even RR didn't become a success story through word of mouth. They built their reputation in part due to constant print advertising throughout the 20th Century and many of those adverts were, and still are, praised by the advertising industry and had a positive effect on sales. One of their latest TV adverts makes reference to those adverts - the loudest noise comes from the electric clock, or words to that effect.

There aren't really many ordinary circumstances where a Rolls is absolutely the best tool for the job and I wouldn't think it's the most suitable as a general run around or lugging stuff about. The branding and advertising it as the best has often been about appealing to social status and ego stroking. It's a great way to sell stuff and as much as the build quality and finish is impeccable......it's still just a car with some ultimately pointless bells and whistles. Very impressive bells and whistles but not necessary.

Their reputation in part may also be due to buyer bias - there's not many want to drop a small fortune on the best car and then admit they may have fell for the hype or reputation and could have made made a more suitable choice for their needs.

I'd absolutely have one though...turn a few heads while I head through the Maccys drive through. It's cheap crap but I love those Chicken Selects.:D
