Well, what I got to see of the game was ace. Much better than last season and so happy to see Charlie Davies of all people score two. His second was quality. Really really pleased and optimistic about the season. Strange to watch Everton and DC win all in the same day.

Well the Dynamo tanked one to the Philadelphia Union but I can handle that. What I can't handle was Carlos Ruiz's leading elbow to Hainault's head (Hainault was laid out on the turf and looked unconscious for a minute or so) during a challenge which is a straight red card in any league.

Not in MLS apparently when Abbey Okulaja is refereeing. He gave him a yellow and the linesman was too gutless to make the call. We were all fifteen rows up and we all saw it. Sad that the two on the field didn't and the linesman was about thirty feet away FACING the play.

My hope is that there is some sort of league punishment even though he wasn't sent off. Punk.

Glad to see Davies scoring. His interview after the game was tearful.

Davies game interview

So my Day had the blues get three points and then I went to the Rapids v Timbers match. Smith had a blast from distance. Look for the highlight. Great strike.

Good stuff this past weekend. I was also super duper happy for Charlie Davies, and I have to say, he doesn't look like he's lost a step. Still quite speedy! Hmmm...if he has a blinding few weeks might make it interesting for the Gold Cup.

Bummer of a loss TX Bill.

The Canada derby looked like fun - and the Whitecaps' DP looks to be a beast!

I completely and utterly jinxed LA. That mudpit video that was shown earlier in the thread was almost the LA pitch tonight. They played in what looked like a monsoon. Pouring rain - more bad conditions. 1-1 tie was not surprising as a result. What was bummer was that nearly the *entire* game was spent in the Revs half (yes, they are that bad minus Shalrie Joseph who if he could get his personal life together would be an amazing talent, or could have been). LA dominated the game, but our starting forwards were *dire*. LD looked good and should have had an assist and a goal. Served up a few beautiful passes, and then missed a sitter. I felt like I was watching Everton play - same forward situation!

While he may wear the kit I support, I have no love for the player. I didn't see anything malicious in the challenge.

I don't believe there was any malice in the challenge either. But that doesn't matter. Just like it doesn't matter with other types of dangerous play. He should have been sent off for leading with his elbow. As I had mentioned, it happened not too far from where I was sitting and I thought he should have gone.

Even though it was a boring game with Novak seeming to settle for bogging down the midfield and stealing the 3 points. The passing was really kinda sloppy on both sides in the midfield. I was very happy with our recent acquisitions. Mondragon controlled the line and Valdes looked like a beast. I did not expect him to be and as skilled as he was. If he and califf can keep the cards down and Harvey not trying to do too much I think our defense should be pretty solid this season(although some depth would be nice).

I have a feeling that at home we will open up the play more and put mwanga up top with ruiz and move le toux to a floating attacking mid. I wasn't impressed with nakazawa and hope torres can push him for time. I also cant wait for okugo to taik away migs minutes. Migs did a good job last year but with carrol in the fold we now have two players with more to offer.

As far as the ruiz red card. I thought it could go either way and was more of a ref's call rather than a cut and dry decision. He was definitely trying to keep the cards in his pocket for the most part(you can argue that the ref just isn't that good which is probably true).

Bill- I was watching in a bar so following along with the Houston players since I cant go by looks to determine who is who. Was there anyone that stood out for you? Will your ability to create chances be an issue all season?

1) Jermaine Taylor. Our new CB signing was solid and will be an upgrade.

2) Yes, it will be an issue all season. Maybe not so much creating them but putting them away. We've lacked an out an out goalscorer for the last year or so (Ching is one when healthy but he needs a good partner) since we traded Kei Kamara away.

I was looking for the TV ratings. I hope this keeps up this year so the New TV deal gets worked out early and LD can Leave without Garber hanging onto his leg all the way to the airport.

I agree. I have been pleasently surprised by most of the games this season. CD9's comeback is inspirational. Let's hope he comes back better than ever.

OMG - I just spit my drink out from laughing so hard. Sadly, it's true!!!!

EDIT: Or it could backfire since it was the *Galaxy* vs the Sounders. Sigh.

Okay, I see what you guys mean about Ruiz. He got a yellow card tonight against the Galaxy and was treading a very thin line for getting another.

He was involved in a shoving match with Chris Birchall that got Chris sent directly off in the 54th minute. Ruiz is kind of a stinker isn't he? The game got extremely chippy after that: 8 yellows and 2 red cards - ALL IN THE 2ND HALF!

Whatever, stuff it Ruiz. Even with 10 men, 1-0 to the Galaxy.
