Not keeping tabs on De Grom, but FA usually waits for the big chips to set the upper wages then other players fall in line.

Or he and the Mets are at a standoff, waiting to see who blinks.

Let me answer.

Mets fans have had a mixed winter, simply because BVW is absolutely erratic as they come. They've traded away top chips in Jarred Kalenic and Justin Dunn for Edwin Díaz (who by all accounts, is possibly in the top 2 closers in MLB) and Robinson Cano. They've hoovered up all but $20m of Cano's huge salary, and it's in turn ruling Jeff mcNeil out of a 2B job he seemed destined to have for years, moving him to the outfield.

There McNeil will be up against an erratic Juan Lagares, with Gold Glove Defence, and a body made of glass and Keon Broxton, who is simply there to add depth, sell puppies and probably play 100+ games.

Back in the bullpen, it's hello again to Familia, whos' took a huge hometown discount, to become the 8th inning guy, and is back for 3 more years. Lugo, Gsellmann and new acquisition Justin Wilson make up a very solid bullpen, with probably Bashlor and his excellent acceleration adding to the mix. Maybe Drew Smith.

Jed Lowrie has been brought in for 3rd base, to replace the disappointing Frazier (whos now injured anyway).

For Catcher, we've got Wilson Ramos who was probably the second best available, and he hasn't cost us Syndergaard (which is what the Marlins wanted).

No new Starting Pitching, and assuming they don't strike lucky twice in in a row, that means significant time for Oswalt and Vargas this year.

Overall, a good short term fix, farm is patched up to hell, and Braves and Phillies unreal offseason will be interesting to see the NL East be the strongest division in a long time in MLB.

That’s a really nice summary there. Have a sinking feeling that the Nats will be stronger without Harper

I think the Nats depends solely on how well Soto fares this season.

I always got the impression the Nats relied too heavily on Harper in offense, and yes, he's a Franchise piece to any team, but they neglected other areas. Personally, Scherzer aside, they're probably 4th best in NL East.

I see it being

1) Braves 2) Phillies 3) Mets 4) Nats 5) Marlins ................ Subject to Phillies getting Harper (not that he wants to go!)

Jed is going to play third? Woof.

Hope he continues his play from last season. Made those late, late A's nights very fun.

Harper to the Phils. 13 years, $330 million. Don’t think he’s a good fit for Philly at all

Was wondering that also. This is all $$, right? I'm sure Philly is a good team to play for, but if you're already in DC, and you turned down (?) the Yankees (boyhood team?) and Padres (lifestyle team?) then what do the Phillies give you except a few extra $$?

I don't get it, but then I've also never been offered $330MM, so there.

Scrapple, mate.

13-years, no opt outs. But can we still laugh at how amazing Bobby Bonilla's agent was?

I feel like Everton can top this.

Bryce, its a good signing, I guess. You are taking one of your division rival's best players and making yourself better. He's still only 26 and the NL is there for the taking. is OBP is still excellent but that batting avg and SO numbers are kind of worrying. He kind of looked like he was in decline last year. The final 3-4 years of the contract won't be all that bad if the NL goes DH (plz god no).

Too many good teams in that division, however. It'll be an interesting year to watch the NL East. I just think the Braves have the most up and comers, and if they stay healthy, they look like my pick. They're ready for a good run for the next few years. Marlins will stink on ice, but the rest of the division has reasons to believe they can make it.
