Just started the day by giving Northern Rail a free tenner.
Accidentally bought a ticket on the trainline app from Lime Street instead of to. So i then bought the correct ticket. Went to refund the wrong one, they're giving me £2.50 back from £7.95 including a £2 "admin charge". Whatever my mistake.
Refunded the wrong ticket.
So im a tenner down and i havent even got on the train yet.
Robbing parasites.
Something similar happened to me today.
I booked a return from my local station to London St. Pancras for Thursday 12 March 2026. All went well it seems until I collected my tickets from the station. I then noticed that the return journey was actually booked for Saturday 14 March. I was really annoyed with myself because I am usually very careful.
However, upon returning home, I then decided to repeat the exercise and go through the motions of booking again. I selected the same journey (date and time) from home to London St. Pancras and then, as before, clicked on 'Add return'. It took me to a screen where I could set the departure time and select the date of travel. I didn't notice the first time but the dates from 12 to 14 March were wrapped in a sausage type shape with 12th highlighted in white, 13th highlighted in grey and 14th highlighted in black. I set the 'Leave after' time and then without selecting a date clicked on 'Save'. When it took me back to the booking screen the system had automatically selected the 14th March. I didn't notice the first time which is why I now have a ticket which I have no need of. Since I have to travel back the same day (as per the vast majority of travellers) I now have had to book a new return ticket.
I can't help thinking that the train company do it on purpose.
