minimum 5th gets Europe...can we make it?

If Everton get a new manager in and give him the proceeds from selling Fellaini, then that money will have to be spent well, or the s**t starts to hit the fan.

Did the crap hit the fan when we punted 10m on Billy and made an 8m loss? What abt 8m on Yak where we only got one decent season out of him...6m loss on that one...6m on Beattie? Kroldrup cost how much? Did we get much back from them? By an amazing stroke of luck we didn't lose money on AJ...but normally we would have done.

Moyes has done amazing things in the market, but he's as fallible as anyone else with big money signings.

It's time to give someone else a go. But not anyone from the merry-go-round, and not anyone internal or old-boys-club.

Look to the continent!

Surprised so much blame is getting placed on Moyes for yesterday really. Neville for Gibson was a poor choice but i really doubt that one change would have made us win. Not a single outfield player gave a performance worthy of victory. Regardless of Moyes' contract situation, if 11 players can't get in the mood to go to Wembley then they're utter bels.

Anyway, lads!

Let's see if we can keep this thread about where we'll finish this season, and our chances of making 5th.

There's plenty of Moyes-talk on them other threads.

I'm not sure if you really want to get into a discussion about Moyes' ability in the transfer market mate. Mainly because it's all been done before and even Moyes' most ardent haters admit he's boss at buying players for cheap.

Most of the money he has spent has come as a result of selling players he has bought, too.

Eh? I did write this in that very post you quote:

If our players cant get motivated for an FA Cup Quarter Final they may as well retire now.

Agree 100%.
But Goat, you have seen what I have recently mate. The England midfielder Osman is knackered and Neville legs have gone.
It stank of one last fling for me did the team sheet, and if Im even more honest, maybe a touch of arrogance.

Billy cost 9.5m was sold for 5m.
Yakubu 12m sold for 2m
Beattie 6, sold for 4.
Koldrup 5m sold for 2.5m.
AJ bought for 8.5m sold for 10.5

But its ok cos Lescott was bought for 5m and sold for 24m.

Lets play this game, I like this game.

Not falling for this again !

Honest question.

Hand on heart.

Was the team that Moyes selected good enough to beat Wigan?

We all know the result and we all know he should have picked Gibson instead of Neville, but please, explain how Moyes picked a side to lose?

Wigan have got young mobile midfielders. Pit them against Osman and Neville is suicide IMO. The game is won and lost in midfield. He picked players on status over ability and form there.

Heitinga got murdered by Kone last time we played them. He's been half arsed all season. We've also been conceding from crosses and set pieces a lot. I can't see how bad Heitinga will have to be for Duffy to get a chance. He's proven he's a good player. His mistrust of youth tripped him up there.

Jelavic is bang out of form. Victor has been scoring mostly. Moyes needed to be ruthless and couldn't.

The long ball to Fellaini's been sussed. It only works when we play it on the deck too. Martinez was onto us straight away. He had all our ball players marked tight and left Distin and Heitinga with the ball knowing they'd eventually do it long. When we did they were all over the second ball. He didn't do anything to change that at half time.

So I'd say no. That was always gunna be a tough game with that side he put out.

But thats not it. Almost every time the pressure and expectation is on us we fold.

That's not down to the players picked or 4-5-1 over 4-4-2. It's mentality.

We don't know how the build up has gone. Has he built them up mentally to believe their brilliant? Has he spent all week worrying about Wigan and transmitting that to our players?

The past history of these games says it's all wrong.

"The England midfielder Osman"

Sicks in mouth.

The team was fine mate, we all agree that Neville for Gibson was terrible, but that aside, it was a team more than capable of smashing 17th place no marks.

So significant losses and significant wins...sounds like most decent managers' experiences. I'd even say Moyes is a master at the art of buying cheap and having them contribute loads (Arteta, Cahill, Jags).

The point is that he's not infallible at making huge losses with big-money buys. So we can't use that as a defence for him.
