...it’s a fantastic first job, especially after the last manager failed. Great club, big following, fabulous stadium. Even if he fails somebody else will take a chance on him. Indeed, he could go elsewhere and bomb. Sometimes you get one chance at a job like that, so you have to grab it.

What a dream start for any manager, very progressive appointment by Arsenal rather than picking another off the manager Merry-go-round. 1/10 looks like it’s a done deal.

Of course it’s a job he couldn’t turn down and I don’t blame him for taking it on. Personally I believe he will struggle there, the fans are expectant, their board demands top four finishes and Champions League football, fans alike. A couple of loses and the knives will be out for him. They expect success. I think he’d have been better off starting off at a a mid tabled club with little expectations or a club abroad first. It’s very rare for a coach to move to a big club as manager in England and go on to be hugely successful.

Or he may do well there. It’s all opinions of course but I believe he will struggle there. I think Arsenal are gonna find themselves in a UTD situation going through the motions with a number of different managers.

I think hes got a huge job on his hands and no experience behind him.

He has 2 top forwards...and perhaps a handful of others in the squad worth a mention...

On the other hand he has a fanbase who think they should win the European cup every season.

Im surprised they didnt go for Vieira.

The impression ive had from Arsenal fans since Wenger took them to their first premier league title is that you expect to be winning the major honours every season...

Impatient for success. Not necessarily a bad thing in itself...

Perhaps not, but in any case its still a massive job for Arteta. I would have expected Vieira to come in and have the fans behind him OR to go for a tactician like Allegri and go back to something similar short term of the George Graham strategy with solid foundations.

I think Arteta is in a bit of a 'no-lose' situation as if the team finishes mid-table the fans will blame it on the board + Emery + players...he'll be given 2 seasons at the club.

Arteta would be foolish not to take the job but at the same time its such a massive rebuild its going to be hard.

I may have this wrong but aside from Aubameyang I dont think Arsenal have any senior players who can be counted upon?

I'd have not been upset if he'd come to us. It would've been a gamble. Will be interesting to see how he gets on at Arsenal.

I think he might do well, I remember reading an article a couple seasons ago which claimed that he was the best student they had ever seen when he was doing his badges. He’s always seemed pretty intelligent for a footballer and Pep obviously rates him. I’m massively biased though as he’s my favourite Everton player of the past two decades... I wouldn’t have been too gutted if we’d signed him tbh.

I look forward to this post being vaulted when Arsenal sack him within 3 months.
