Not a good start for Arteta and I wouldn't be encouraged if I was an Arsenal fan at him bringing Steve Round in.

They have taken a huge punt and that is it in a nutshell.

Only results will prove or disprove the wisdom of appointing Arteta, but if it goes wrong, then as we know to our own cost, the ramifications of getting successive appointments wrong can have considerable consequences.

I really think these days Arsenal are little more than a shinier, souped-up Everton. We should absolutely aim not only to compete but overtake them with Ancelotti, and prove ourselves the more attractive option for potential signings.

He's finding out what many assistants find: their delusions of grandeur are exactly that - delusions.

He'll be an assistant coach at Real Sociedad or Alaves in about 12 months.

Point is though we don't know and he was wanted even before he became a 'cone layer'.

Mourinho was an assistant before taking over from Heynckes,as was Heynckes . Both for top tier teams Benfica/Gladbach. There's numerous others but it's down to the individual.
I know there's a lot of hate for him here but I think he was the right choice for now.
As far as the owner is concerned he's handed over money , not much else he can do. It's up to the people he employs to make the money work.
We are not that different to the situation you were in just a few weeks ago. A couple of wins later and it's all rosy again.
Mate, I'd ignore all the 'cone layer' shouts as that's something that has sprung up relatively recently, and I'm not particularly anti-Arteta if that's how it appeared.

You're right about it potentially being a completely different scenario in a couple of weeks after a few wins, and the football already does look somewhat better.

Also like you say, there have been assistants who've gone on and thrived, but equally there's been a lot (I'd suggest more) who haven't, which is where the risk lies.

I said this back in October regarding our interest in him, and I still stand by it: if you're in a mess, aiming for someone with no experience is slightly worrying.

If we're talking objectively, I see it as a risk when a more 'assured' manager may have been a better choice because what if he can't stop the rut? Turn it around?

Regardless of injuries etc, you've won one game in sixteen (sure that's correct) and the owner, like with his other teams, seems content for the club to 'tick over'.

It's been widely reported that the dressing room is pretty shocking at Arsenal, with some serious egos, so will he be able to fix that? Will they respect his authority?

Personally, I hope he doesn't do a good job and not because of any personal dislike for him, but rather a 'rival' in disarray only benefits us.

However, if I was an Arsenal fan then I'd probably like yourself be looking for the positives and hoping for the best, yet objectively there's still a big risk about it.

I work on probability and (hopefully) rationale thought, so yes while Emery didn't work even as an experienced, winning manager I would expect more from him.

So I am factually an RS supporter am I? I refuse to like in future the one in 79 of your posts I agree with
You've made a massive leap there. I'm merely stating (and right in stating it) that you are wrong that Dalglish kept Liverpool at the top. He didn't did he? Not when Everton won the title the following season and then Liverpool crumbled in the 90s. And you should have known that.

Don't follow them really :)

Arsenal fans seem to be generally pleased so far. They especially liked the first half against Chelsea in which they managed 5 shots, 1 of which was from open play and 2 of which were from the same corner. I know Newcastle is a lower level opponent but we had 22 shots against them.

I probably would have been fine with Arteta but man did we get a better deal with Carlo. In reality that Arsenal-Chelsea game was two teams poorly set up and Chelsea were able to turn it around because they started a bit worse and Lampard was forced to change things first. Everton have a better manager than both those clubs now. What a time.
