The main point is that people automatically assume that working under a great manager will translate to being a great manager themselves, when it's not the case.

Look at Ferguson's assistances at United who've gone on to be managers: Brian Kidd, Steve McLaren, Carlos Queiroz, Mike Phelan, and René Meulensteen.

Arguably one of the greatest managers there has been, but how many of his managers have really been a success? It may be different under Pep, but it may not.

How many of his assistants at Barcelona and Bayern have gone on to great things? Arsenal are a total mess, under a rudderless ownership, so it's a difficult task.

Would he though? I'm not so sure as they must of tried the day Napoli sacked him.
Besides it's only a massive job because the media love London Sly top 6 teams, but it's not massive to Carlo compared to what he has been doing.
No I think Arsenal have done the best they can, no one else apart from Sam wanted it
that's not true is it though.
As much hate as there is for him here, I think he couldn't turn it down.
He must have something about him if he was wanted by Wenger,Guardiola and Pochettino when he retired.

Time will tell if he's successful here but for all the doom and gloom playing like we did for the 1st 45 yesterday, we will win more than we have so far.
Once we are safe(6 wins from 18),he'll probably start prepping for next season.

THUNDERBIRDS ARE STALLED!

Point is though we don't know and he was wanted even before he became a 'cone layer'.

Mourinho was an assistant before taking over from Heynckes,as was Heynckes . Both for top tier teams Benfica/Gladbach. There's numerous others but it's down to the individual.
I know there's a lot of hate for him here but I think he was the right choice for now.
As far as the owner is concerned he's handed over money , not much else he can do. It's up to the people he employs to make the money work.
We are not that different to the situation you were in just a few weeks ago. A couple of wins later and it's all rosy again.
