What the bleedin hell has Mike Walker got to do with today’s Everton?

I’ll tell you...

Diddly squat.
In total honesty I found myself thinking about the prospect of appointing Sam Allardyce as manager today and was trying to think of a time when I was less enthusiastic/hopeful/excited by a managerial appointment and came to the shocking conclusion that I was more excited when we signed Mike Walker than I am with the prospect of signing Sam. That said I believe we will be marginally less woeful under Allardyce than under Walker.

Not sure on your age mate, but nearly every single blue i knew at the time was not expecting anything and wondered why the 'f' we'd hired an utter no mark like Walker for.

You must either be too young to remember or had a weird set of people around you i never met.

Nah that's not true.

Walker was highly regarded at the time, did a cracking job and Norwich and bloodied the noses of some big European clubs. His appointment was somewhat of a coup at the time, it would be similar to use taking a Silva or a Howe now.

It all unraveled so quickly of course. Coming her destroyed his managerial career and almost destroyed us. Just goes to show that anything can happen.

Remember when he was brought in as manager of Everton??? The excitement after seeing his Norwich team challenge for the league.

I always remember some woman on BBC news saying " He will awaken the sleeping giant of Everton " I can only assume this women was banished from the galaxy for being so wrong.

We expected great things from the Walker appointment and it never happened. It took us close to the edge but brought about the appointment of Royle and our last trophy.

So today, we will likely be appointing Big Sam in a cloud of disapproval from quite a few fans who are expecting the worst before he has been given a chance. Think back to Walker and the high hope we had, it never worked out. This appointment might work, it might not. Before Sam is here we are Everton, and after he is long gone we will still be Everton.

This is a wake up call for some fans who expected immediate sucess 18 months ago when Moshiri came in. They ran amok on social media " Billionaires lad " and thought we would act like Chelsea/Man City and buy immediate success.

We started off by acting like Chelsea fans saying random players should throw transfer requests in to join us. Acted like City fans because we now had money we could do what we want and look down at other clubs and see them as inferior.

This instant gratification of demeaning other clubs has turned us into acting like Geordies and becoming deluded in the standings of the current game. We are not what some of you people think, you need to pull that head out of the sand and wake up.

Todays appointment and how we are acting will be the completion of the transformation to being full Geordie.

Don't look at it as the worst thing ever, but see it as a turning point in Everton and your own persona. We can blame Kenwright, Moshiri and Koeman but if you want to blame someone take a look in the mirror and make that change.
Mate.

I agree with everything you say there, with one important exception. Allardyce is not the right person to appoint as the next Everton manager. I don't know who is, but I do know that he isn't. You only have to look at the reaction on here which is mirrored whichever Everton forum you look at. No other manager would invoke anything like such a response, which has to tell you something about the guy.

We need a manager that the majority of fans will get behind. Allardyce is most definitely not that man.

Mike Walker well that didn't turn out well did it, highly rated indeed at the time had Norwich playing some lovely stuff as well before he came to us.
He came in the Wilmslow after the Wimbledon game and got introduced as the man that kept us up , que a few polite claps and a scurry to stop me and my mate scotty getting over the bar to fill him in , I had totally lost it , luckily he made a quick retreat , clapping a man who had nearly relegated us not on my watch.
everyone was buzzing off us and it didn't spoil a good night.

Get off your pedestal soft lad and stop trying to sneer at other blues.

you know things have gone to pot in the world of the blues when even the gaffer is giving tongue lashings out

I can just imagine the amount of <foul language removed>'s there would have been in the first version you wrote of that post hahaha

We were in a relegation battle the year before we appointed walker. I remember beating Blackburn at Goodison midweek which was a bit of a turning point. Things weren't good at Everton long before he arrived. Not dismissing how poor he was but it was not the only factor.
