2025/26 Michael Vincent Keane

Dangerous extending at his age, what will happen when he loses his pace!?

Joking aside, I was happy signing him as 4th choice last summer and he’s exceeded all expectations and probably had his best season this season so of course we should give him another 12 months as we continue to strengthen

Not the first centre back in the world to show some of his best form aged low thirties. I predicted it was possible at the tail end of his last thread (24/25 season)...

I wasn't confident he would perform like, but I defo said it was 'not beyond the realms...'

He's an enigma Keane, and some managers have got a tune out of him at times. He seemed to do alright under Moyes. If Moyes can at least drag his best Everton form out of him, then he'll do alright. Can't say I'm massively confident he will like, but I wouldn't say it's beyond the realms either. He's at an age where he should be able to show his best form.

He has been very good and shows no signs of ageing so another year would be both a smart and cost effective move.

I would like to see us bring in a young CB soon given the ages of Tarkowski and Keane, but even if we did it would probably still be prudent to keep Keane for a year to let that player go on loan rather than stifle their development as a 4th choice on our bench.

The real question shouldnt be whether we extend his deal.

I think the question is what happens at the end of next season if Keane & Tarkowski deteriorate at 34 years of age and Branthwaite continues to have injury issues.

You dont really want to have to sign 2 new centre backs next summer.

At the moment there arent many top young centre forwards around but there seem to be plenty of great looking young centre backs.

The issue for us is that Moyes isnt going to trust a young defender.

Lots of work to be done across the defence and while Keane extending is like kicking a can down the road im not sure weve got any choice.

Stones and senesi
Both no transfer fee
Wages should be doable
Mix of playing styles
Stones should be good for 2-3 years
Senesi more likely a decade or so left....

Senesi is 28, probably 5 years left rather than a decade. Wages will be high as hes on a free.

Stones is seriously injury prone.

We would do well to find a replacement both in quality but more importantly in attitude I think.
I'm not saying he's the greatest but he has been good this season and his attitude cannot be questioned.
I think there are more positions need filling before we even start thinking about central defenders.

You have to earn a new contract (or at least you should need to).

Seamus has been handed contract after contract despite offering little to nothing in terms of availablity for the club.

Michael has been great this season, and deserves a further one-year contract, which I'm sure he'll get.

As long as we keep Keane, Tarkowski, O'Brien and Branthwaite, and obviously sign a real right back, we'll probably have the best centre half options in the league next season.

MKE.webp

He has had a good season. Unfortunately I am not a fan of managers having their toys to play with. If Moyes gets another go which is looking very likely it is important we do not hold onto certain players too long and build for the future. JB and O'Brien are the best central pairing. We need to start looking for competent talent to understudy and not stunt the growth of a very promising young duo.
