2025/26 Michael Vincent Keane

Just to add a bit of balance, I was horrified when he signed a new deal and even more horrified when it became apparent that he was going to play a lot of footy, due to Branthwaites injury at the beginning of the season.

However, he`s played very well this season and I genuinely can`t remember him having one of his " moments " this season.

If anything Tarks has been the weak link there, as it looks like time is catching up with him.

When he`s fit, the first name on the team sheet in central defence, should always be Branthwaite and one of the other three centre halves alongside him ( hopefully J 0`B from next season ).

If we`re going to blame anyone, it`s Moyes who should be getting the blame for that ridiculous line up last night, not Keane.

especially when Garna crossed the ball & hit the first man when we had Bradthwaite unmarked on the back post !
There's a few things with the goal. Barry, as the first man, slips as Gana puts the cross in so Maguire has an unchallenged header out. Tarkowski gets caught between going tight and dropping off, bit he's massively over committed. Garner is slow to close down Cunha (not really his fault as he's trying to add width). Iroegbunam is ball watching and never covers back and Branthwaite doesn't cover back particularly quickly - at least Tarkowski is a full sprint.

He was up field on the back post unmarked waiting for the cross - that hit the first man ..... Tarks in no mans land only 5 yards in front of the eventual scorer never got near him .....

Anyone who understands football would have him as the 4th choice centre back behind Branthwaite, Tarkowski and O'Brien. I was really pleased when Keane was resigned. You can go back to that thread. I would have mentioned something like he's a great squad player to have retained.
I didn't want him here as 27th choice. And that's probably going back the best part of a decade let alone now.

We've all been there when you are running flat out and then some kid scorches past you and into the distance as if you are walking the dog.
At the same time you've got Michael Keane running like the Isle of Man flag to try and get near Mbuemo.

A chastening moment for the pair of them, and SURELY the last time they will ever be selected together.

And our intrepid CM was on the wing, not even in the picture.

Moyes laid particular blame at Gana's and Branthwaite's feet, but frankly the key moment was Tarkowski's decision not to drop.

I'm sure he rates Branthwaite higher than Keane.

The point was on the decision to renew Keanes contract. To say it was a mistake right now is in my view wrong, even if we need better.

I mean for one, Branthwaite basically missed the season.
Not to extend his contract, but as soon as Branthwaite is fit he has to play, starting him as effectively a LB is criminal. And playing O'Brien at RB rather than in central defence when he has Patterson or at a push Garner there is beyond belief. To say Moyes is stubborn is an understatement.

Fair view.
I dont think Keane has been particularly bad this season. And yes arguably better than tarks overall. However he still has calamitous mistakes semi frequently and is best set-up to defend just heading everything away.

The big thing for me tho. Tarks and Keane is an awful uncomplementary combination. Thats on moyes, who just keeps picking it.

I've been a vocal critic of Keane, but at this point you're right can't even blame him really. Doesnt pick himself, and doesn't pair himself with another slow player in Tarkowski. Responsibility has to be with Moyes.

Keane also not watching mbeumo taking off until it's too late, but as you say a combination of poor play.
