Very. Calm and composed, better with the ball at his feet, can bring it out of the back.

And pass success rate? Keane is great at passing sideways. That can improve. He's not a senior player yet.

But a more important stat is that Holgate has a better successful tackle rate than Keane.

We must be watching a different player. Holgate is extremely poor at passing. I hope he does improve that aspect of his game, but at present it's absolutely shocking and stinks the gaff out, whether sideways, backwards or otherwise - completely all over the place.

Holgate is young, but many players have glass ceilings on certain aspects of their game and his passing may never improve. He can't play for a team who want to play out from the back.

I'm not Michael Keane fan at all, but I've seen nothing to suggest Holgate is the answer in terms of replacing him.

Probably the case.

But personally, I've seen enough to say he's capable. Seems to have hit the ground running on loan at fullback, even got an assist too.

He barely put a foot wrong under Koeman and Big Sam. So would rather have faith in him and Mina rather than spending another £30mill on someone who could be a Keane mark 2.

Unless Brands pulls out something special, I've no problem with giving Holgate a go.

My take on our centre backs

Keane: decent on the ball and wins his fair share of headers however they seem to go everywhere and anywhere. He sometimes commits too far and gets turned and although he's not slow he rarely seems to recover. Makes an occasional gaff.

Zouma: he is quick and fairly strong but for someone of his size doesn't win enough headers. He is erratic on the ball. He is prone to making errors which he sometimes saves with his pace.

Mina: tall and dominant in the air but is still adapting to the league. He doesn't appear to be very quick and is prone to giving the ball and fouls away in silly areas. He seems to be the best talker.

Holgate: quick and agile however lacks physicality and gets out muscled a lot. He is good on the ball but this is let down by the fact he'll try something difficult instead of just playing basic passes. He may also turn out to be better suited at right back.

Jagielka: at one time one of the best defenders in the league. Could still do a job in an emergency but has lost a yard of pace.

Pretty much spot on if you ask me, too. Mina I think is the best of the bunch with his feet, too. He's not quick, but his feet are decent, he's just huge.

Holgate has gotten stronger and his ball control is really good. He's clever with it, but yeah, just make the easy pass, man.

Keane also has recently tried to to make some very difficult passes. He pulled a couple off early this year, but they are too risky and he's about the last one you want trying to stop someone in the open field. He's OKAY, he's a bench player, helps with home grown rules, but I really don't want him starting after this summer. He's kind of like a compromise of everything.

I personally would send Zouma back at the end of his loan and buy a left footed centre back to play alongside Mina or Keane have the other on the bench keep Holgate as 4th choice but also competition for Kenny at right back. The new centre back would need to be reasonably quick and comfortable on the ball. Jagielka would be released.

Yep. Agreed. Would like a bit of leadership and some toughness, too.

I only remember Holgate having a few bad games, the rest good, maybe I’m seeing something different to everyone else that thinks he’s crap.
I certainly don’t think he’s crap, but he’s never looked like a convincing centre half. He’s had some good games but plenty of bad too. He’s got time on his side but it’s no surprise to me that he’s back playing right back even in the championship.

Ill go mad if we sign Zouma permanently. He’s a bang average.

Keane was garbage the other day.

That foul was moronic.

We have three CBs who are all good on their day, but just tend to make rash calls. Out of all of them, I'd say Mina's the best. I don't even think he was bad v Millwall really, yet he still made that cock up in losing the header for their first goal.

Zouma can't mark for toffee (sorry) and Keane just makes completely brain-dead decisions far too often.
