Very rusty. We have to remember it is still basically preseason with a few new faces. We do need an additional striker though. However DCL was sharp and eager when he came on, shades of Rom but without the Teflon shins.

We're getting very close to it not being pre-season any more. No excuses then. Hoping for a big improvement, but there were so many things wrong tonight.

Romperroom didn't make one serious effort to play football in the entire tie. Like playing at Boro last year except we actually scored.

Klaassen looked pretty decent when he was on ball, it's a shame he barely touched it..good assist though.

Keane MOTM for me, wanted Mirallas or Lookman before DCL but the kid performed when called upon, great signs.

That pitch was disgusting, the close-up's showed why a lot of players were sliding, especially Sandro.

Davies was great, should be starting over 1 of Gana/Snides to offer more creativity, because Gana/Snides don't offer anything going forward and slows us down dramatically.

When we get Bolasie back, added with Mirallas & Lookman, we'll have plenty of pace to use.

I appreciate there's a helluva lot more games to come this season, but I'll go out on a limb here and say we won't see a more enjoyable game than that.
I'm a little concerned with the hubristic positivity seen in the match thread, but I can understand why people feel so ebullient.

Biggest thing about tonight and last week is that Keane does look boss.

That Martina never got near the pitch.

That we looked so God damned one paced and frankly woeful going forward, that we will hopefully spunk a shedload on siggy. Giroud, a decent cb and someone with pace and maybe a left back who doesn't mind going past a man.

Yeah Keane looks solid, get another good centre half alongside and we'll be sorted. Pickford didn't have much to do but he looks good and will be a great signing. DCL showed that he is a centre forward and looks so much better when played where he should be. I'd like to see Davies in the middle and Kenny at right back.

in both games playing for a draw (as we did) is more dangerous as it invites pressure

we literally created their best chances by taking 5+ passes around the back line for no discernible reason

Let me say I'm very pleased I couldn't watch it.. that approach drives me nuts!
