More than likely like the rail, full of freemasonry.….I wonder with jobs being so plentiful in London, the Met struggle to recruit the standard of personnel required and expected in the police service. It certainly appears to have been poorly managed for many years, individuals getting promoted who wouldn’t be elsewhere in the country.
I think fundamentally a consistent failure of leadership, defensive mindset and promoting from within that pool.….I wonder with jobs being so plentiful in London, the Met struggle to recruit the standard of personnel required and expected in the police service. Before I retired, I saw this in other areas of the public sector.

Will only get worse, and it’s not just the Met. The standard now being recruited all over the country is awful. It used to be very difficult to get in the police and it was very rare to actually pass first time and join. You would have to do a paper application form, then an assessment centre and then a 3 panel board interview.
To get in now it’s just a quick chat over Zoom. It’s little wonder the police are having so many problems.
There is now a steady churn or people joining and then leaving with less then two years service. It’s probably somewhere in the region of 15%. This will only get higher now you need a degree to join.
Add to this it’s only a matter of time before we go to a four day working week. It’s already being trialled.
When that happens and you will have graduates working Monday to Thursday then a nice long weekend. Or join the police or NHS and work most weekends for less money whilst your mates are all enjoying themselves whilst earning more.
If you think policing is bad now, in 10 years time it will be 100% worse.
Never worked for me.More than likely like the rail, full of freemasonry.
Some of the gobshite people I have seen getting manager jobs over the years
Merseyrail prior to the Dutch coming on board, was rife with it,Never worked for me.
I know that having a relative or friend in the Knights of St Columba was a big plus if you applied for a position in Liverpool City Council in the 70s and 80s.Merseyrail prior to the Dutch coming on board, was rife with it,
BR also, around the late 90s a lot of are managers were members,
I was mates with one and he told me 3 others who joined the same time as him alone.
I was having a feud , with a couple of managers at the time so he told me who was who.
One high up manager from BR days must have been recruiting for years as they all seem to stem from a relationship with him.
It was common knowledge those days
Like anything else some good some bad
, but there were a few who were absolutely out of there depth.
Havnt a clue about northernrail as i keep a very low profile, don't really bother with many people at all so knows what is going on.
Yep it does work both ways .I know that having a relative or friend in the Knights of St Columba was a big plus if you applied for a position in Liverpool City Council in the 70s and 80s.
