Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Great checkout stories @anjelikaferrett and @IrishBlue2022 warms the cockles. You’re right @Armaghtoffee sometimes on the checkout you need the patience of a saint. I used to do Christmas temping when my kids were small. The first year I did it I got a job in Littlewoods and was put on the cheese counter. Cutting the cheese off the block was an absolute nightmare and I used to dread it. We had one regular customer who wanted 4 ounces of cheese exactly, she would make you cut it again if it wasn’t right. Dreadful woman, so rude and treated us like dirt. But as our supervisor used to say they can’t sack you for what you’re thinking. I got a job in WH Smith the next Christmas though. lol
Wow Gwladys, another parallel universe experience =along with brown knickers. I had a Saturday job in Littlewoods in Liverpool city centre for about three years. Occasional checkout operator but mostly on the cheese counter. I remember those customers well. They asked for a pound of cheddar and wanted a pound of cheddar - not under, not over but exact. I became a bit of an expert with cutting the square blocks but OMG the round ones like Wensleydale and Stilton. Could never judge them. @coollino I worked in the days when we wrote the prices on the bags and then the person had to take them to the checkout. If a poor looking pensioner came in and asked for two ounces of cheddar, I would cut a massive lump off and just write the price for two ounces on the bag.

That really is spooky and don’t forget the stamp collecting!

I maintain that I have never been so well off. If we covered the permanent staff summer holidays, working for a week earned me something like £50. I was 16, pre boys, pre alcohol. Had absolutely nothing to spend it on. I think I bought records, tights and gave some to my younger brothers as pocket money

I had an Irish Border Collie, got her from family in Ireland. Bloody gorgeous dog.

Chased her into several neighbours gardens. As intelligent as she was, Broadgreen was no place for a girl like her.
We ended up giving her away as despite being 5 minutes from Court Hey Park and taking her out twice a day you just couldn't expel her energy.

Photos on my old laptop but basically the spit.
Border collies are awesome!! I had a Border mix and he was one of the best dogs ever! He taught himself to babysit our cats. Whenever I yelled the cats' names, he knew they were doing something wrong and he would herd them away from whatever they were doing! lol

Here is a pic of him and my son:

I left after 6 months as it was killing me not going the game I got a ticket for a derby and went the game we won 1-0 David Johnson scored.
Never worked another Saturday.

Lovely photo that VTG and an adorable pooch too (and the human child, I suppose).

Loyal to a fault. It broke my heart letting my collie go but I was a kid and didn't know much better, it was for the best.

She took to running in circles in the garden barking at the seagulls. It wasn't fair on her despite me trying my best to walk her as much as I could.

Thanks, they have their adorable moments!

That is absolutely understandable! Our dog was only 1/2 Border and he was the first dog we needed to get a professional trainer. He had so much energy that he started chewing on baseboards and picked up brand new pieces of sod that was put in the backyard and was running around with it! lol

Mine ate the heel off my Adidas Predators (a big thing for a young lad from Liverpool, I was Alan Ball when I wore them things) I chased her into the house when I found the remnants absolutely raging, the daft sod just jumped up and licked my face after I got her into the front living room.

You can't be mad at an adorable creature like that.

My Mum was though...
