Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I think it's been about a week now, it's stops sometime this week, it was 12 days in total.

I sure hope the city can resolve this soon, doesn’t seem sanitary at all for people to be walking around the city with piles of stinky trash all around them.

Its the latest in a whole bunch of strikes here in the UK mate, started with the trains, then airport staff, then criminal barristers, then postal workers, then refuse workers, and a fair few more industries that I can't quite remember off the top of my head. It's basically all the people who had to carry on working through the pandemic (public service workers) they were promised a pay rise pre COVID then had to take a reduction, now the cost of living has risen hugely and they still have had no pay rise and what is being offered just isn't enough to support a lot of people.

Afternoon guys. A bit overcast down here today so no excuse for not getting the ironing board out this afternoon. Definitely not looking forward to that. Especially ironing my 2 dress shirts. :(

Apart from the ironing, I have a lot to cram into the next 4 days. I have to do the on line check in for the cruise and flights. Since covid everything is done pre cruise now which involves, amongst other things, uploading passport photos, taking lateral flow tests and completing medical questionnaire and declaration, updating my NHS covid travel pass, on line check in and printing off all the travel documentation and luggage labels. It doesn't help that my printer isn't working so will probably spend a couple of hours round at the neighbours tomorrow. Plus I need to pack of course and make a checklist for toiletries etc to make sure I don't forget anything.

I also need to organise my trip up to Merseyside for when I get back from the cruise. I only have a 2 day window so need to arrange everything now, including flights, hotels etc. Also need to contact people to let them know I'll be up so I can sort out my social calendar for the trip. ;)

At some stage I also need to fit in a trip into Falmouth as I need a haircut. I'll probably pick up some euros whilst I'm there and also a couple of new T shirts for the cruise. I'm also desperate to see the second Fisherman's friends movie which is out now, but probably won't be by the end of the month when I'll next get a chance to see it. If you haven't seen the first one, it's based on a true story about a group of fisherman from a Cornish fishing village who sing sea shanties and is basically a feel good movie. In the second film there's a scene set at the Minack, an absolutely stunning open air theatre cut into the Cornish cliffs not far from Lands End. Definitely worth a google if you are not aware of it.

Having a healthy salmon salad for lunch which I now need to prepare. Have a good Sunday all.

Wow, I had not seen pics. That looks terrible. How long have the trash collectors being on strike and why isn’t the government doing something to settle the issue?
I dont think the Govt wants to give them a pay rise and that's why they are striking. There's a lot of strikes over pay at the moment. Inflation is at about 10% and most public sector workers are being offered around 2%. It isn’t just the public sector either. There's a lot of unrest.

Some of them are the ones that have been venomous to me and have tried to get me banned. When I first joined the forum I would confront them, but now I just ignore their comments without having them on ignored.
Exactly the way to deal with them Sassy, you're still going strong one or two of them have probably fallen by the wayside.

It is unfortunate for the regular citizen that has to endure the effects of a strike but as public servant myself (and one that unfortunately has no union rights in the state where I reside) I find strikes to be an important negotiation tool and one that most public servants would rather not have to use, but at times have to do so to achieve better working conditions. Most salaries for public servants are meager compared to the private sector but some of us are devoted to our professions and want to do this job, but it is unfair not to get the compensation one deserves, especially if the government has made promises that haven't been met.

You sure have a lot to do to get ready for your trip, good luck getting everything done. I have not seen the Fisherman's friends movie, where can one see it?

I had a healthy salmon salad for lunch on Friday, now I'm thinking of an unhealthy breakfast before going to the gym lol

Aye, leave the weirdos to their sad existance mate. There are many more good eggs on here than bad ones. GOT is a wonderful place and this thread, Roydo's and lots more are examples of this fact.

Good afternoon lovely people!

The early morning started cloudy but since then the sun has started shinning and we are expecting another hot sunny day in Asheville, the next few days are going to be like that so Mr. Sass has gotten the AC going again and I'm back on my winter PJs ? Now I'm trying to get myself motivated to go to the gym, then need to go grocery shopping and straighten the house a bit, Sofia has been better than usual this week so things don't look as chaotic in her room so it shouldn't take us long getting everything tidy. Then later this evening we are thinking of going to see the city's symphony, they put together a concert every summer to be played at the main park downtown but the past two years they had not done it because of Covid. I really want us to go but Sofia begins school tomorrow and the event ends at 9:30 pm a bit later for someone who has her first day of school tomorrow.

On other news, I wanted to mention about a movie that we watched last night with the hubby. We really don't watch much tv or movies throughout the week because we don't have the time, but on the weekends we do try to do so. Yesterday we wanted something light hearted and came across this English Comedy on Hulu and we both truly enjoyed it. It may not be the film for everyone, but as a woman I found some of the underlining message quite powerful as it discusses the fragile, fractious process of confronting shame about sex, and a woman's journey to find sexual satisfaction for the first time in her life. The whole story was witty, it gave us a good laugh but also had a lot of different messages not just about sexuality but also about parenthood. There was also a shot at the end of Emma Thompson completely nude looking at herself in front of the mirror that I found beautiful, empowering and daring. I can't see an actress in the US playing such a role and allowing themselves to show the reality of an aging women's body, when all they want show on films here is the perfection and endless youth that Hollywood wants to portray on their actresses. Anyway, it was a good comedy and we really enjoyed it so I thought I mention it since Fred was discussing films too.

Cheers, friends. Have a fantastic week! See you on Tuesday for sure. xxx

I am total agreement! I'm happy I found this wonderful place and became an Evertonian. I know think that given the hubby's strong English genes, that it was meant to happen. I was the one to bring him back to his roots with English football :D

I have it on DVD. You can borrow that if you want?

It's available to rent on the UK version of Amazon Prime. You could try googling it for a free version.

Hahaha, very amusing.

Is this it? I found it and it part of my membership. New movie for next weekend :)

That's the one. You have to pay for it on UK Prime.

If you like feelgood movies you'll enjoy it. Not a film most will readily own up watching on the GOT film thread though.?

The fishing village is the same one where Doc Martin, a long running UK TV series is set. Port Isaac. There are probably about 20 fishing villages like that across Cornwall. Most are just tourist destinations now though which is a bit sad.
