Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Who's your team? Hopefully Galway wins!

Iranian food is delicious. There are lots of go to dishes I guess. One of them would be kebab type dishes with just a skewer or 2 of meat or chicken with rice, Iranian bread and a few other sides. My favourite is Fesenjan which is some kind of meat cooked in a walnut and pomegranate sauce. But there are loads of other things.
I bought the sauce on Monday and I am hoping to find the fruit tomorrow ,not sure if it is in season now .I know the chicken will be !

Morning everyone ,

lovely , bright sunny morning here.

Awoke still feeling tired after yesterday's exertions.

Only played table tennis for 2 hours last night , just ran out of energy.

The good news is that the next 6 tonnes of gravel doesn't arrive until Friday so a couple of restful days before then , although I am off to the gym soon !

When I got home from ping pong I had a cheeky beer and watched the Lionessess Must admit I've just never got around to watching women's football before and I was very impressed with technique and passion showed by the girls. It was good.

Got me thinking though .....and honestly I'm not being Sid the Sexist here .....We no longer call actresses , actresses or use the term heroine but do call the Womens team Lionesses . Can someone explain that to this old man please.

Anyway have a lovely day everyone
We watch quite a lot of women’s football, internationals and WSL. Not so much play acting, players poleaxed whenever there’s a tackle etc which makes a refreshing change. Although I’m not sporty or the least bit competitive I would love to have had the chance to play football just for the love of the game. Born too soon lol Agree with @Barnfred 55 and @anjelikaferrett that the nickname lionesses is very apt - considering the performance of the team especially when they were six minutes from going out of the tournament the other evening. Talking of sexism when Baddiel and Skinner released Three Irons on a Shirt to coincide with Women’s World Cup three years ago I took exception and was advised by an acquaintance to “ lighten up a bit”, still not sure whether I over reacted, my judgement may have been coloured by David Baddiel, he’s not one of my favourite people.
Hope you had a restful day are recovered from your recent exertions.

I've been thinking about this all day. So here's my take. I can see why humans have gender neutral- a person who acts is an actor regardless of gender. People who put out fires are firefighters. There shouldn't be a need to specify gender. Police officer, chair of a meeting ( why do you need man or person attached) However to call a team of women after a male animal would seem to be reinforcing the patriarchy. Also slightly misleading. If I went to see the Lions play I would be expecting men! Lionesses are far better than lions anyway, they do all the hunting and lead the pride while the lions just hang around in the background! Maybe they should have picked the other creature on the coat of arms and called themselves the unicorns! No confusion but not as fierce ?
Unicorn? Isn't that just another name for a left footed right back?

I’m not a big fan of Baddiel either TBH.

Good morning all on this overcast start to the day .I hope all slept well and have a fine day today .Nice to see a bit of action at FF although I think they may have filled a void they didn't have ! He looks a decent footballer ,the type I love to see .COYB
I agree Blue. Seem to be swimming against the tide but I like McNeil and think he's a good signing.

The only problems is that he isn't a like for like replacement for Richy and plays best in a 442. Reminds me of Sheedy . If DCL is fit he will love his crosses.

Morning everyone ,

Grey , overcast and threatening rain today.

Thought I'd have a nice restfull day today but oh no Mrs J has other plans and a ton of pea gravel arrives today .

When I protested and pointed out that I've got to spread 6 tonnes of the stuff tomorrow her reply was " yeah but this is only 1 ton ". Problem is that it's to top up a path in the back garden and needs to be moved about 50 yards first! Happy days.

Anyway how are we with our new signings ? Vinagre - a back up left back. Well that's fine if he can also cover right back and it looks like they don't think Nkounkou will make it.

I really like McNeil - a young vey technically talented left footer. Only problem is for a winger he doesn't score or assist much , although he is great defensively. So, is that a product of how he had to play at Burnley or not ? Guess we will find out next season. He's definately not a like for like replacement for Richy and it wouldn't surprise me if Frank played him as a centre mid.

We defo need a DM and another striker because I can't see DCL staying fit for the season unfortunately.

Have a lovely day everyone.

That old unicorn again. Ha ha. Maybe we should get Dave in to educate us on left footed right backs. Or maybe not. :p

We aren't bringing in big names but I actually quite like what Frank is doing. We;re bringing in some much needed left footers, which is adding some more balance to the squad. We are also bringing in players that will allow us to play different formations without playing people out of position. I like Mykolenko who I think is going to be a very good full back. But he is not a wing back and I think he has shown that. Vinagre however is probably at hs best as a wing back which will allow the Ukranian to move into the left hand side of a back 3 which I believe he will excel at. I also believe he could eventually move into a central role in a back 4. We haven't had a natural left footer in that position for years.

I also like McNeil and agree that he is a bit Sheedyish when in possession, but he is also very good without the ball which our old maestro wasn't. He is versatile and can play wide in a 442 or on the left of midfield in a 433. He is also young and may yet learn to play a more central role, he has the defensive attributes for it. He can also take set pieces, something which we have lacked since Digne and James left.

There's still much work to be done mind you. We need a defensive midfielder and somebody to replace Richie's goals. But we are ahead of where I expected us to be at this stage and there's still 5 weeks left of the window. Assuming McNeil signs, I can see us bringing in another 3 or 4 players before the window shuts, including a couple of loans.
